I think there needs to be a salary cap or something. I don't care how good you are at football, anything over £20,000 a week is taking the piss. And even that's taking the piss.

In theory, if a worldwide agreement, it might work.
But the biggest thing is how some clubs would get around a cap, eg paying them extra expenses or something mad.

I agree with kev - what theyve gota comprendo sharpish is that while everyone is earning, people are less bothered by the obscenity that is football wages. But wen people are losing loved ones and losing jobs and "government money" isnt a bottomless pit...us lot will have to refill it somewhere down the line. Not really surprised its levy doing this...he is a slippery bandit. And not very nice.

Everything will just revert back to normal when this is all over, it doesn't matter if it's a 3 months or a year.

I'll just be glad that every twat with a guitar isn't a "heart-warming" piece on the news.

The way I'm feeling, i'd smash every guitar on earth first, then try and find the COVID-19 cure.

Can't think of much to contribute here really.

My elderly relatives are too blase about the whole thing and keep going out shopping. Mercifully I have managed to keep my parents (85 and 73) indoors. They are clueless with computers so I am doing all their online grocery shopping myself. Bagging delivery slots has become a national sport, like calling a hotline for a ticket to a gig as soon as they're released.

Despite our local market closing, some of the stalls are doing home delivery, so we can get fruit and veg and meat.

Despite all the celeb nonsense it was nice to see James McAvoy donate 275k to fund NHS equipment.

Keep going with the parents litefoot. It is a strain. Old uns r a law unto themselves, quite often do the opposite of what they shud do, but at least yours are keeping themselves safe.

Xeb, the lad playing OuatiAmerica theme is about the best ive seen. Some of the song videos - yuck, i want to shoot them.

My dad, for some reason, read an article about tapping silver birch trees for sap to turn into syrup, and now seems to want to do it. Stay in-fucking-doors. Jesus.

Haven’t contributed much, Bill. So busy at work that I’ve only really been able to swoop in with a brief but brilliant comment and get back to sorting out the errors of the legal profession, of which there are many.

However, it’s disappointing to see that Tottenham (in particular, but also apparently Newcastle and Norwich) have applied for government funding for the wages of furloughed off-the-field staff while still paying full wages to the playing staff. Proud of my club for coming to an agreement with the playing and coaching staff to defer part of their wages to keep food on the table of the general staff. And yes I do know what defer means!

Furlough. Never seen it used for this before, only in the sense of a military holiday. A bit like nobody said “red wall” until it was demolished last December.

I've only recently learned that word is pronounced "Fur-lo". I always assumed it was "Fur-lock". I don't think I've ever actually heard it spoken by anyone before this.

As for PL clubs applying for govt funding, that's a disgrace. Far as I'm aware that is for businesses that could find themselves in trouble and maybe smaller League clubs. And yet Levey hasn't thought twice about taking his £4m salary and a £3m bonus for "delivering" that stadium which was a shambles. He's a nasty piece of work.

I actually don't blame the players so much in this. They're just in a profession and get the going rate. Some of them are generous with their time and money to be fair. It's the owners and directors I blame with their greed and gluttony and screw the ordinary working people. It's the whole system is at fault.

This football/players wagers thing is gonna be a game changer/ender, if they don't get their shit together.
They cannot just sit back and collect their 30 to 200 grand a week and watch the regular employees of clubs and beyond suffer and starve.
Public opinion and backlash will grow, the longer it goes on, and if they really love the game and value their long term futures, they're all gonna need to wise up.

Even truer a few days later Kev. Surprised theyve not done something a bit quicker. PFA - still run by gordon im retiring twat taylor really shouldve been proactive and be ahead of the public mood a week ago.

Don't let him subscribe to the NHK News channel - he'll want to collect flowers to make indigo dye.

(It's coming along pretty well, actually)

Reports in the media this morning that PFA talks about reducing player wages, broke down.

I'm a bit surprised not a PL single player has offered yet.

Did the talks break down, or the players, at the thought of them having to take a pay cut?

Let's wait a bit before we "worry" about the players making £200,000 a week, aka "The Oppressed Proletariat." big grin

Last time it was fat cat bankers.
This time, we turn on the players first.
In fairness its been a long time coming for them and is in anyone books, beyond obscene that lots of people earning 30k a year and less pay for people to earn 30k a day.
It needs addressing.
However, we have to be careful that come the revolution, brothers...its the beginning of scapegoating and turning on our tail. Next against the wall should be anyone who works in the media as they have revelled and wallowed in making this worse. Then i think due for a visit from state police in the middle of the night is anyone who has gone out for more than 2 runs in a day - fkn murderers! And then we can start on the silly-rich russian oligarchs. And then, lawyers n dentists, making money out of our misery. Then anyone with hard-earned savings put aside or some kind of pension, how dare they. And then for the guillotine, fsm people who can still afford to order CDs when i cant. . Then most of all, those four doom n gloom know-it-alls who have made the coronavirus thread unfknreadable during the last 2 weeks. I will be back tomorrow with some more. Solidarity, judith.
