Graham, I agree it was a visual delight ( even cut) but that was it. As far as substance you might as well try and hang wallpaper with just tap water!

A Black Veil for Lisa(1968) With John Mills, Robert Hoffmann and Luciana Paluzzi Quote 'the giallo was still finding its feet when black Veil came along' and while it is no crystal Plumage it does have elements and styling that would be shaped, later. Anyway Mills is a coppa, who blackmails the black gloved killer to top his wife, coz he thinks she's unfaithful. Funky music= no, more like an episode of Columbo- the English version was a rescored by Richard Markowitz. It wasn't bad , just no giallo . Twist ending= not really Witness of murder= no Striptease= no Killer’s POV=no Man slaps woman= yup Overloud or inappropriate music= no Outrageous title= she wore one, so no J&B bottle, yup Sir John hammered it a fair bit Naked woman= yup, but discrete as it was Paluzzi. I think there was a body double in the mix Death by stabbing=several with the weapon of chioce Red herring= No fish whatsoever. Black gloved killer= right at the beginning but then you find out who the killer is, so they lose their mystique. Goofy police inspector= no , Mills goofy, never , what ho! Important picture= no Woman takes bath or shower= yes Blackmail= yes, Mills over Hoffmann Gay/lesbian character= no Important memory= no Random scene in Italian= no Ooh ooh music= no Death by razor= no Childhood trauma= no Killer’s footsteps=no So an early day's 7 Last thought it was a bit odd watching Johnny boy snoggin'.

Death Laid an Egg With Jean Louis Trintignant, and Gina Lollobrigida Murder and deceit in the world of chicken farming! A decidedly odd one. Funky music= I wish Twist ending = I think so Witness of murder= yes , a the time Striptease= no Killer’s POV= no Man slaps woman= don't think so Overloud or inappropriate music= absolutely. It was awful. As if a gang of monkeys were banging away for the first time. It bore no relation to the film Outrageous title= I say yup J&B bottle= no , Johnny Walker for a change Naked woman= yes but we only saw the boring bits Death by stabbing = yes , at the time Red herring= yes, right near the beginning ( Black gloved killer , Witness and death by stabbing were.part.of red herring) Black gloved killer= yep at the the time Goofy police inspector= no only appeared at the end Important picture= I assume so, Jean Louis hid and later ripped a picture up , coz of content Woman takes bath or shower= no Blackmail=no, I think it may have been coming though Gay/lesbian character= no one so colourful Important memory= no Random scene in Italian= several Ooh ooh music= no but some dick of a fella singing ' beep beep ,bop bop, ba ba( shite) Death by razor÷ no, they should have done the vocalist and musicians Childhood trauma= only for the chickens Killer’s footsteps=nope So a round 10

Suspicious Death of a Minor(1975) With Claudio Cassinelli While on a kidnap case,Cassinelli gets involved in child prostitution case. It's not really a full on giallo but was promted as one. Even director Martini said its more a coo thriller. The studio promoted its giallo elements., as the films were in at the time. Anyway it is quite a good one, decently made. Cassinelli is fine as the cop. A bit of humour, car chase thrown in for good measure Funky music= a bit in places Twist ending= no Witness of murder= yep Striptease=no Killer’s POV= no he wasn't in I much Man slaps woman= yes Overloud or inappropriate music= no after the last couple, phew Outrageous title =not really, though a bit on the long side but appropriate J&B bottle= yes. It snook itself in Naked woman= partial, not fully Death by stabbing = oh yes Red herring= no, though for a good while you didn't realise the star was undercover. Black gloved killer= he wasn't in it enough to splash out on a pair Goofy police inspector= 2 of the main 4 cops were there, a pair of dopes. Important picture= didn't notice any Woman takes bath or shower= no Blackmail= yes , though brief Gay/lesbian character== no-one so flamboyant Important memory÷ no Random scene in Italian= does the dialogue from a film playing in a cinema count? Ooh ooh music= no0 Death by razor= no Childhood trauma=no Killer’s footsteps=no So 7. Not bad for a partial giallo

Heads up, Arrow Video is having a pretty good summer sale. (More for curious readers of this thread than its core squad as 98% of them have been covered here) Point is, they have plenty of classic Gialli here. They also have Strip Nude for your Killer.

A Blade in the Dark (1983) A film composer rents a villa while he composes a film score. People get killed Funky music= no, one piece of slight. Jazz the rest was shit Twist ending= I say yes , came complete with signposts Witness of murder= only their own Striptease= no such luck Killer’s POV= yes, but not prominent Man slaps woman= no such luck Overloud or inappropriate music= yes, one of the poorest I've hears. All the more annoying as it's about a film composer( and he wasn't German) Outrageous title= no, in fact it was to the point J&B bottle = not a sniff Naked woman= yes, as magazine pictures and one when changing into a swimsuit Death by stabbing= several and one by spanner and one by cine film Red herring=,if you're feeling generous Black gloved killer= briefly Goofy police inspector= not a coppa in sight, even in the epilogue Important picture= no Woman takes bath or shower= no Blackmail= nope Gay/lesbian character= maybe Important memory= I can't recall Random scene in Italian= no Ooh ooh music= once , while killer was stroking a set of kitchen knives Death by razor= no and no one shaved , either Childhood trauma= yes , the basis of the film within the film Killer’s footsteps= briefly So a poor nine. And the film was a bit on the poor side, limp. Watching this now. I mean literally now, as I’m writing this. It’s a bit boring, to be honest. Everything so far (cast, crew, story) is just off the pace, and being early 80s it’s starting to be retro-influenced by the American slashers that were gaining currency. The killings are nasty without being stylish, the herrings are less rosy than anaemic and there’s precious little nudity, and what there is is quite self-conscious. It’s leaving it a bit late to buck up… Half an hour later… It didn’t. Vaguely interesting story but not rooted in real life at all - you want SOME realism in the story. Where are the police? Why do all the characters look as if they’ve never acted before? This has taken over from The Pyjama Girl Case as my least favourite giallo. Apparently the film was made in 18 days. Sorry, guys, but you can tell.

So you didn't get any buzz from the lead being a ( shit) film composer?

It was like the De Angelis triplets. And on a bad day! On reflection, the best part of it was the couple of minutes of the film within a film. That had a real Stephen King vibe to it. True . It had a bit of potential but was diluted a fair bit.
