Lol. I think centuries ago poncey probably did mean effete. However, it has evolved as a sort of slang for posh or illusions of grandeur or unnecessarily over-elaborate.

So a peppermint n camomile tea could be described as a poncey tea. Geddit?

Also, english language in uk has a lot of double meanings. For instance a ponce is someone who scams a cigarette or a drink off people without paying or ever reciprocating. A scrounger.

Probably because i used the word, DiB decided to call me Earl of Poncey (and TG was Lord Castlemouldy).

I'm staying with my sister for a couple of days & they have Amazon Prime (well they don't actually have it, they're using their sons account - it's a scandal!), so I looked at the first episode of Carnival Row, & really enjoyed it (I'll see a couple more episodes tomorrow), it's a fantasy set in a very grubby & brilliantly realized city (think of a mix of all the big cities from around 200 years ago), maybe I'll get to see it all one day.

Django series, last 2 episodes
5.5 out of 10

God, i will be so glad when this dull, pedestrian series finishes. I have been stuck in backstory hell!! So much so, there seems like separate back stories for 3 characters constantly interspersed with the current story. Just so f***ing tedious!
Honestly, it feels like 80% backstory and 20% main story. Noomi Rapace's performance was its only redeeming element. I kinda hoped it would improve ...but it didnt. Avoid.

Soundtrack. I was truly shocked to find out that the tepid, almost-unnoticeable music to this series is provided by Mokadelic - especially given it was them who delivered such an alive, buzzing, energetic n mean soundtrack for Gomorrah. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to do more urban crime music for a western, No, its out-of-place and doesnt work.
The Gomorrah score will get them more gigs. But this forgettable blandness will have producer's losing their phone number. Lol

Unbelievable.
8.7 out of 10.
Excellent procedural cop series about 2 female detectives (Merritt Wever and Toni Collette) from different districts who realise they both have cases of a very cunning serial rapist with the same M.O who cleans crime scenes n leaves few clues. Superb performances from all involved, especially Wever and Collette, bit also Kaitlyn Dever and Danielle macdonald, who play 2 of victims.
Limited series 8 parter. Despite the subject, they convey the trauma without gruesome scenes. Essentially it focuses on the investigation and relentless hard work of the police involved. Highly recommended. Reminded me of True Detective - it was that good.

My husband and I really enjoyed The Night Agent on Netflix. There were a few plot loopholes, but overall, it was an exciting thriller.

Did you try Unbelievable on netflix, joan?
I think you will like - two very sassy, committed lady cops.

Night agent is on my list. Will try it soon.

Making use of my Discovery subscription and watching endless numbers of home renovation shows. New kitchens, living rooms, patios, bedrooms, dens, dining rooms, kids playrooms. I wake up in the mornings after having dreams about teal kitchens and shiplap paneling. Accordion doors giving breathtaking vistas to huge patios. Pasta spigots mounted above brightly colored gas stoves. Hidden doorways. TVs disguised in fancy antique cabinets. Accent walls in palatial bedrooms. Spa bathrooms. Outdoor gas ovens. Dilapidated farmhouses looking freshly built. Barns transformed into modern oases. Wooden tables made from barn doors. Epic changes that bring tears to homeowners and their families.

Now back to my modest rental apartment...

Saw it joanie- over 3 days, so its fast pace and tension was very good. Agreed some of it was very far-fetched but id give it an 8.5.

I saw Magpie Murders over Easter, I thought it was just great. A six part whodunit from the book by Anthony Horowitz (who also wrote the screenplay), it's two timelines, one in the past (that is a fiction from a book) & one in the present, & the same actors play different parts in each timeline, it sounds complex, but it isn't, & it's so stylishly filmed (& for a change the ending doesn't disappoint). It's on BBC iPlayer, I'm not sure what channel it's on in the States, but it's well worth catching.

The Sinner with Bill Pullman.
S1 to s4.
Pullman is little irritating, his character takes forever to answer any question and the plot of s3 has been a little silly at times but just about i kept watching.

Currently watching OUTER RANGE.
Gorgeously photographed and superbly acted TV series starring Josh Brolin, Will Patton, Lili Taylor. I'm always hesitant to watch a new story based TV show, as it’s hard to know upfront if the makers know and have planned on how to end it. I'm 4 episodes (of 8) in and so far it's very interesting.

Premise: Wyoming Rancher Royal Abbott discovers one day a mysterious hole on his land, that appears to be a time portal of sorts. When one of his sons accidentally (in a fight) kills the son of a scheming neighbor, he lets the dead body disappear in the hole, with unforeseen consequences.

It's a beautifully crafted show, lots of care obviously went into it, before and behind the camera. Amazon shows it in UHD/4K, and it looks first rate. The first 4 episodes were quite engaging, the next 4 episodes will probably show if it was worth starting.

I agree. I liked the series, but Pullman's highly mannered acting grated on my nerves.

Glad it wasnt just me joanie!

Omg Sinner series 3??? Coulda been 3 episodes and they dragged out this scenario of keeping endless tabs on a bloke who was guilty of 2 murders to 8 episodes. And plot got nonsensical and ludicrous and contrived n silly.
Worst of the 4 series.

Thoroughly enjoyed this show. Hopefully they will have a season 2!

Just watched the movie Jungle (2017) based on a true story of survival in the jungles of South America. Refreshing in it's realism, which is rare in movies today.
