Anybody tried The Last Of Us yet? Quite impressive thrill-ride first episode. Only took a brief 10 mins of establishing characters before the mayhem began.

Anyone bother watching the old Maigret TV show. We have just finished it ( on talking pictures). Overall quite enjoyable. Some plots were quite hard to fathom, some easy. Nice bit of nostalgia ( especially for mum and dad). Plenty of spot the faces going on, some very young. I was surprised how much filming was done on location. Vive La France!

Bill, I will watch Last Of Us after all the eps have played. I don't like waiting week to week. I like to binge watch a series. Warning Joan, ep 1 n 2 were great, but ep3 was a weird filler, 95% back story about 2 somewhat-irrelevant characters. Couldve been done in ten minutes but they dragged it out for virtually the full episode.

Forget GoT rerun - go straight to Breaking bad. You know it makes sense.

The uk tcm last few weeks has been wall-to-wall Man from Uncle, theyve been reshowing the series episodes daily and the movies. Everytime i turn on tv its been spot the guest star, today Jill Ireland as a go-go dancer, Terry-Thomas, Herbert lom, Curt jurgens, Kim Darby in the Karate Killers (1967). Back in the day as a kid i loved this series, had the ilya mauser gun, a jigsaw, etc. But these days, revisiting, they really are a silly nonsense full of badly-choreographed fistfights, villain's henchmen dressed in the same outfits, etc. Robert Vaughn's Napoleon Solo is still cool but the best part of them is the theme music.

Think I had the gun, a plastic box that was a radio with concealed compartments for sweets maybe, and a diecast car from either Corgi of Dinky (along with the Batmobile, Green Hornet's car, both Bond and Saint's Austin Martin and a Daktari set) Great series. Great cast and top music.

Last series of Happy Valley ( depressed valley more like). Great stuff really. Can see why James Norton is tipped for Bond. His escape from court must be a nod to that surely. And Nolly. Russell T Davies' tribute to the star of UK soap Crossroads with Helena Bonham Carter. Has a leading cast member in common with the show above, and was quite witty. Didn't come across as impressive as The Road to Coronation Street, or the Doctor Who one. And yes I know this one was built around one person, but still.

She's back for series 4, and its great. One thing i noted rather belatedly is that Babylon Berlin was created, written and directed by Tom Tykwer, who also composes the music with Johnny Klimek. I only knew him as co-composer, didnt realise he is a rare true auteur.

Yup, I looked at a few of them, & I thought I'd enjoy them more than I did. I can remember liking the series back in the sixties & I went to see some of the movies (& I have the DVD box set somewhere). I thought seasons 3 & 4 were the best, they were quite larky by then (almost comedies, maybe the influence of the Batman series) with some great guest stars, I saw one with Eleanor Parker in it, & she looked terrific...& Jerry Goldsmith's jazzy theme is the real star, capable of so many variations.

Django (The series). Very much in the style of recent westerns like The Harder They Fall. Not quite sure about this series yet. Like so many reboots, so far it bears zero relevance to the original Django (other than the mud in the street and the religious-zealot villains wear black scarves over their faces, not fire-engine red ones) so its another name cash-in and could just as easily been called Ringo, Sartarna or George. One scene in ep1 was an ambush at the bank and a shootout across the street during an anti-alcohol march where protestors were caught in the crossfire ...little bit of a Wild Bunch steal/nod. Further reports after ive seen more episodes. So far its a 7.3. Maybe.
