STOLEN GIRL---Kate Beckinsale, Scott Eastwood and James Cromwell will star in the movie whose synopsis says, “It’s 1993 in Ohio, and Maureen’s 6-year-old daughter Amina is snuck out of the country by her ex-husband, Karim. Maureen eventually succeeds in tracking down her ex-husband and Amina in Beirut, where she will face the most difficult decision of her life.” DYING FOR SEX---Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate and Sissy Spacek will star in the FX miniseries based on the podcast. The synopsis says, “DYING FOR SEX follows the story of Molly (Williams), a woman diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer who leaves her husband of 15 years and begins to explore her sexuality. Which is actually the worst way to do it." She added, “I was told, ‘We have ten guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross. And I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult,’ so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it...It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me. It was just a very different time and now we know better.” TRIVIA---in John Milius' THE WIND AND THE LION set in 1904 Morocco, American teacher Eden Pedecaris (Candice Bergen) and her two children are kidnapped by tribal leader Mulai Ahmed el Rasuli (Sean Connery), who sends a ransom demand to President Theodore Roosevelt (Brian Keith). In the scene where Pedecaris gets a squad of Marines to help rescue Rasuli from German troops, there are 11 Marines. When Eden and the Marines go outside to confront the Germans, there are only nine Marines. More exorcism movies! Gee, I hope this can be spun into a franchise, film sounds absolutely unique and original!! Very clever title that really grabs ya - and skirts that other franchise at Warners, the $400M one. I haven't seen an exorcism movie in 2 days, and I was starting to feel neglect of this terrifying, malnourished, nearly forgotten genre!! There's so much more to be said in these films, each one a new and frightening experience that continually evolves the horror field!! I wish people would stop wasting their money to see these, and perhaps "they" would then stop making them.....bring back teen stalk and slash in the woods flicks, Please!!! We forgive your badness!!

Like many classic films they're lightning in the bottle and a product of their time. The Exorcists is one of them. It was shocking for its time but once you play those bag of tricks it can never be as visceral again.

Well, I think it says more about your own melancholy and nostalgia, Solium, coping with your own "loss of childhood", so to speak, rather than any level-headed assessment of the state-of-affairs. No worries, we've all been there sometimes. The important thing is how you let those sentiments steer you in life. It's important to explore outwards sometimes, beyond Hollywood if necessary, and to meet new things with an open attitude, whether it's a new EXORCIST film or whatever. Not just brush it off because it's new, and everything new sucks and why can't we go back to 1984 again, when everything was rosy and nice.

I adore dragon53s posts, always read them. I'm pleased most seem to like the First Omen, especially the score. Good on ya. Haven't heard details, like it was scary, engaging or dramatic....just....good. Society, especially the young, have this problem of not being able to explain what or why they like anything now. Hmmm.... I don't usually make bombastic hate posts unless something moves me to. Like this proposed movie. If you think this micro-genre is going to spawn some new, scary, revolutionary film.....good on ya, enjoy. Keeping feeding the Dianoga film has become and enjoy all your multiverses of exorcismus. I'll be enjoying an Expanded album of Il Grande Del Sorriso Tentatore by Morricone, or even better getting exercise or watching a Capra film. So many better things to do in life..... Addio....

The film industry just isn't very good anymore. Its lazy, creatively dead and cheap looking. That's a broad statement of course, there are some good stuff out their but far and few between. Can I ask, how many new movies did you watch in ‘23? I say over 100, both domestic and European releases, studio and independently financed, and I would say that at least 50% of them could be categorised as good, excellent or superb. And as someone who has a particular interest in films of he 60s and 70s, I have to say that 50/50 ratio would probably apply to cinema from those decades too. Objectively I do not believe that movies have got worse, per se. I do agree that the quality of tentpole movies has, by an large, declined (in my opinion of course) but to suggest movies as a whole are lazy and uncreative is either hyperbole to illustrate a point (and in fairness you do acknowledge it is a generality) or possibly because you haven’t discovered the ones which are well above average.

Of course there were great movies in earlier decades and some after the 80’s but I stand by my opinion Hollywood films in general have declined in quality and originality over the last 15-20 years in particular. Nope. You just got old! Seriously though, the absolute bombardment of media product has swelled, especially since the pandemic, and producers are so hungry that they make some poor creative choices, leading to things that try to appeal to every demographic, and end up pleasing none. It's kind of like we were saying elsewhere about Star Wars' characters sexuality-it may not come up in a movie, but is made specific mention in the spin off novel, making of book, card game, web series, toy, interview, etc. There may be just too much out there, spreading itself too thin, but it's up to you and you only to choose the stuff you want to engage with, and ignore the rest. I tend to buy older films and music these days, but that's the power of nostalgia writ large, too!

It's a looong tired trope and not scary, as they go for the gore, gooey, and effects, NOT a hint of psychological or emotional heft in them. This story sounds EXACTLY like The Exorcist and I don't give a whit if it's based on a so called "true story".

THOR: I post what I think you guys are interested in. As I've said before, I'm not personally interested in most of today's movies and tv such as superheroes, assassins, zombies, slashers, etc., so what you guys say about these topics don't bother me. Good to know! You have a higher tolerance level than me. But I'm impressed you keep churning these news bits out there when your own interest is so low. Well he’s not alone. My interest in Superhero’s, assassins, zombies, anything Star Wars & remakes remakes remakes, sequels sequels sequels is lower than a Dachshund’s balls.
