THE WATCHERS---trailer released for the Ishana Shyamalan horror movie based on the novel.

ATLAS---trailer released for the Netflix sci fi movie starring Jennifer Lopez.

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT---the original cast of Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael Williams responded to the Lionsgate reboot of the horror franchise by making a public request for the following from Lionsgate: retroactive and future residual payments, "meaningful consultation" on future franchise projects and an annual $60,000 grant to "unknown aspiring filmmakers".

JOHN McTIERNAN---John McTiernan, the director of DIE HARD, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER and PREDATOR, saw his career crash after a series of box office bombs and being sent to prison for lying to an FBI agent after he hired a private investigator to illegally wiretap a producer. McTiernan said he wants to resurrect his career and still receives offers, but he said "none of them are for good films."
McTiernan said he is working on three scripts, “I have continued to write and I believe I have strength, years left. I am just as angry now as when I was 19.”

JERRY SEINFELD---Jerry Seinfeld commented on the state of the film business, “Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives. When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked. Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.”
He commented on what has replaced the film business in society, “Depression? Malaise? I would say confusion. Disorientation replaced the movie business. Everyone I know in show business, every day, is going, ‘What’s going on? How do you do this? What are we supposed to do now?’
I’ve done enough stuff that I have my own thing, which is more valuable than it’s ever been. Stand-up is like you’re a cabinetmaker, and everybody needs a guy who’s good with wood. There’s trees everywhere, but to make a nice table, it’s not so easy.
So, the metaphor is that if you have good craft and craftsmanship, you’re kind of impervious to the whims of the industry. Audiences are now flocking to stand-up because it’s something you can’t fake.
It’s like platform diving. You could say you’re a platform diver, but in two seconds we can see if you are or you aren’t. That’s what people like about stand-up. They can trust it. Everything else is fake.”

EL PASO, ELSEWHERE---Lakeith Stanfield is in talks to star in the movie based on the video game.

SLEEPY HOLLLOW---Paramount Pictures remake movie underway with Lindsey Anderson Beer (PET SEMATARY: BLOODLINES) as the director.

THAT '90S SHOW--Mila Kunis commented on if she and Ashton Kutcher will return for Season 2, “No. I mean, we did our thing and they introduced our son in the show.”

TRIVIA---the 1970 World War II heist movie KELLY'S HEROES starred Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland and Don Rickles. Eastwood led a squad of soldiers behind enemy lines to rob a heavily-defended French bank holding $16 million in gold. The movie's theme song, "Burning Bridges", was written by Lalo Schifrin and Mike Curb and was a hit song for the Mike Curb Congregation. However, a little-heard vocal of "Burning Bridges" sung by Eastwood was released as a 45 rpm single.

McTiernan made some great films but went horribly off the boil at the end.

He could do with a renaissance.

Lord, please -- no more Blair Witch. I don't care what it is (a sequel, a spin-off, a prequel, a remake, a re-visioning, etc.) -- NO.

Approximately 20 minutes were cut from the movie by MGM and studio boss James T. Aubrey before theatrical release. MGM even changed the title of the movie. Originally it was called The Warriors, then in post production it was changed to Kelly’s Warriors and then into Kelly’s Heroes. Clint Eastwood mentioned in interviews that he was very disappointed about the way movie was re-cut by studio because many deleted scenes not only gave depth to the characters but also made the movie much better.

MGM and studio boss James T. Aubrey strikes again. It sounds like he was a complete arsehole, the first line of his bio on the IMDB is: An immensely unpopular man. He mangled Sam Peckinpah's, Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid - apparently director Blake Edwards had warned Peckinpah about Aubrey after Aubrey had hacked about his film The Carey Treatment, but Peckinpah thought he could handle him.

No offense intended, but I actually thought McTiernan had died years ago. Must have confused him with someone else. Richard Donner or something, I don't know. In either case, glad to hear he's alive and well -- and would VERY much like to see something new from him. He's brilliant genre film craftsman.

He had a string of classics! Not sure what his misses were, perhaps I never saw them. Sad he ruined his life when he was on top.

His last films were 13th Warrior (which got taken away from him), Basic (lived down to it's name) and the Rollerball remake. All pretty poor.

McTiernan’s hit rate as a director is pretty good. Out of the 11 movies he directed, I only consider three - Basic, Rollerball and 13th Warrior - to be duffers. The rest range from good (Medicine Man, under-written but better than many people think) to great to amazing.

I’d even argue that The Last Action Hero is a far better movie than its reputation suggests. Yes, there are some terrible moments but I honestly think it’s a good fun couple of hours.

I’d love to see him get behind the camera again, with a decent project.

Wow, can’t believe he did the Rollerball remake! I’ve never seen it but I’m sure they gutted what made the original so good.

That's the movie that sent him to prison. He had one of the producers wiretapped to keep tabs on him.

Clearly ROLLERBALL was the film to go to Federal Pound Me in the Ass Prison over.

Having suffered through Rollerball, I'd say the prison sentence was justified....maybe not the ass pounding bit tho....

What sent him to prison. Was it the wiretap or lying to a federal agent.

Just make him watch it on a loop for a few days.

It’s against the law to lie to the feds. So that was probably what put him in jail.

I am sure this was revealed moons ago, but... why hire someone to spy on a producer? During what filming?

In any event, McTiernan's return to cinema is good. More PREDATOR, Hunt For Red October productions please.

Apart from Spielberg, Cameron* and Scorsese, are there any other directors from the 70s and 80s and beyond who are still directing BIG Hollywood films these days**? (edit...I suppose the Coen Bros still count).
When I were a lad, you had DePalma, Dante, Landis, Carpenter, Badham, Donner, Coppola etc making a film every year or so.
Obviously some of them are dead now (I know Donner is) but it seems their time, like McTiernan, has passed.

* once every 10 years

** there's also Ridley Scott, but based on his last 10 films or so, I wish he wasn't
