MONDAY, OCTOBER 26 MEG 2: THE TRENCH---Ben Wheatley (REBECCA) will direct the movie sequel based on Steve Alten's sequel novel THE TRENCH. Jason Statham is returning and will be involved in the development of the sequel. Statham was not happy with the original movie's PG-13 rating, “You go, ‘Where’s the f*cking blood?’ It’s like, ‘There’s a shark.’” DEXTER---showrunner Clyde Phillips commented on the upcoming Showtime miniseries and the unhappiness on how the original series ended, “This isn’t DEXTER Season Nine… This was an opportunity to write a second finale for the show. We’re not going to betray the audience and say, ‘Whoops, that was all a dream. What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years. Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage. In so far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale for our show, and Showtime was very gracious about that.” MOONFALL---Donald Sutherland will co-star with Patrick Wilson, Halle Berry and Stanley Tucci in the Roland Emmerich movie about a team of astronauts who must prevent the Moon from colliding with Earth. FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY---Terence Winter (BOARDWALK EMPIRE) is developing a tv miniseries based on the book about NYPD detectives Stephen Caracappa and Louis Eppolito who worked for the Lucchese and Gambino crime families. MINDHUNTER---David Fincher said the series will probably not return, “We lived there for almost three years. Not year in and year out, but … probably six or seven months a year. MINDHUNTER was a lot for me. It’s a 90-hour workweek. It absorbs everything in your life. When I got done, I was pretty exhausted, and I said, ‘I don’t know if I have it in me right now to break season three.’ For the viewership that it had, it was a very expensive show. We talked about, ‘Finish MANK and then see how you feel,’ but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic – dollars have to equal eyeballs.” STAR WARS---John Boyega commented on possibly returning as Finn, "I don't know what's going on with STAR WARS. Well, I'm alive - that's one thing. But it would depend on story and depend on if Daisy [Ridley] and Oscar [Isaac] are coming back. I wouldn't want to be running around by myself or anything." GAME OF THRONES---Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed) said about Season 8's finale, "Lots of people really like it, except no-one seems to like the last episode or the last season. I haven't met anyone that likes it so far." NEW YORK UNDERCOVER---Peacock is negotiations to revive the 1994 New York cop series. TRIVIA---more James Bond movie trivia. Nadja Regin played a Bond Girl with Sean Connery in two 007 movies: Kerim Bey's mistress in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and Bonita the belly dancer in GOLDFINGER. Regin's husband was Michael Szrajber, a paratrooper with the Polish 1st Independent Paratroop Brigade during Operation Market Garden in World War II. The 1st Independent Brigade supported the British 1st Airborne Division which was commanded by Maj. Gen. Roy Urquhart. Ironically, in the movie A BRIDGE TOO FAR, Urquhart was played by Sean Connery. The final ending of GoT was rushed. End of. All that intrigue etc., that marked it out as a tv version of a page turner, despite all the unnecessary sex and effin' and jeffin', was ruined by a rushed ending. Started and continued as epic tv, and then wrapped up quicker than supper in a fish and chip shop. Not the end of the world but......

Now there's a surprise. We usually associate him more with offbeat or quirky genre movies, with lots of acerbic wit and dark humour. More 'arthouse', if you will. But could be interesting, for sure! MOONFALL---Donald Sutherland will co-star with Patrick Wilson, Halle Berry and Stanley Tucci in the Roland Emmerich movie about a team of astronauts who must prevent the Moon from colliding with Earth. Bring it on! Emmerich is a master at conceptualizing outlandish premises. Almost always tremendously enjoyable. GAME OF THRONES---Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed) said about Season 8's finale, "Lots of people really like it, except no-one seems to like the last episode or the last season. I haven't met anyone that likes it so far." What!?? A lot of people really like it, but they don't like it? I don't understand that sentence at all.

I presumed, Thor, the first " it", meant the series as a whole.? Maybe not.

BILLCARSON: Off the top of my head, besides Eunice Gayson, my previous 007 movie trivia was (excluding the original CASINO ROYALE): Maude Adams---3 (THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, OCTOPUSSY, A VIEW TO A KILL) Martine Beswick---2 (FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, THUNDERBALL) Mai Ling---2 (GOLDFINGER, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE) Tsai Chin---2 (YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, CASINO ROYALE-remake) I guess if you're including Maud Adams' blink-and-miss-it cameo in VIEW, you could also give Martine Beswick a shout-out for her silhouetted appearance as a dancer in the Doctor No main credits.

Also: Nadja Regin was in From Russia with Love (Kerim's Mistress) and Goldfinger (Bonita) Mary Stavin and Carole Ashby were both in Octopussy and A View to a Kill and if you're counting cameos, Dana Broccoli appeared briefly in both Thunderball and Moonraker and Diane Hartford was in both Thunderball and Casino Royale. GAME OF THRONES---Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Jojen Reed) said about Season 8's finale, "Lots of people really like it, except no-one seems to like the last episode or the last season. Lots of people really like [GAME OF THRONES], except no-one seems to like the last episode or the last season. I haven't met anyone that likes it so far. Congratulations! I present... myself! GoT season 8 was brilliant. One of the signature traits of the series that I loved was how it surprised you - season 8's ending was not something I anticipated. The writers (as is often the case in popular series) strive to present something fans do not expect; if you show them what they expected, they get arrogant and jaded, because they had predicted it. The finale was epic, tragic, and great dramatic theater. I'd be more detailed, but spoilers.

The Meg was awful Absolutely not. It was a superb B monster movie in the style of DEEP BLUE SEA (also a great film). Came in 25th out of 164 new movies I saw in 2018. I just don't see it as Ben Wheatley territory. Time will tell, I suppose. It's still rubbish but we agree about Wheatley. It'll be interesting at least, I'm sure. Ha Thor wot are you like?! I couldnt imagine anyone in the world describing it as superb - not even Jason Statham's mum telling her neighbour over the fence. I think it could probably be described as mildly entertaining tosh.
