Yeah cue everyone putting the boot in on 3.
I thought it was an adequate conclusion but you might be better asking if people prefer 1 or 2?

It's hard to pick between those first two; masterpieces, both. However, if you put a gun to my head, Luca Brazi style, I guess I would pick the first one, by a very slight lead. But that takes nothing away from the brilliant sequel.

The third one has its moments, but isn't in the same league as the first two...

I'm with you, jenk. One was so novel and brilliant. Two was excellent, one of the best sequels I've seen, but I'd give the edge to one. Three was a disappointment for me except for a few scenes.

I first saw The Godfather I and II all swirled together as The Godfather Saga, so I & II are equally great to me even as I watch them now as individual films. Maybe II, with its past and present contrasts and ambitious scope, is the slightly better movie, but the first one is such perfection.

The Godfather III is also very good. I'm even OK with Sophia's lambasted performance; her amateur acting fits well with the naivete of her character.

It's been a long tradition of mine to watch Part I and Part II back-to-back on Thanksgiving Day usually between 11am and 5pm just before the big meal.

I'd give the edge to the first film just because it's a fun film to watch. I always wait for the funny James Caan swing-and-miss scene when Sonny is beating up Carlo in the street.

I love them all, even III.
Whatever that film's shortcomings, Andy Garcia as a cool-as-a-cucumber badass more than makes up for it.

Coppola himself said the story was finished after the first two films, so there was no need for the third one.

Original is the best henry it had an amazing cast complimenting each-other its possibly the darkest script, oh horsey. Just watching Pacino gradually take the reigns from Brando was unpredictable yet very gratifying & his intelligence & well-fare at the hospital attempt the restaurant slayings was heroic.. as lead participant to both nasty events no-one else could stabilize the Don more nimbly, TGF & II are Pacino's career bests.

De Niro in II - one of his best performances, Vito was poor a quiet character also abit crafty minded if needed - but when Vito finally got poked-too-death by Fanucci the story unravelled in great proportions the under-world gradually formed & built a gangster empire, Michael against Roth was also a great-side notion that finally broke the family saga maybe the most callous piece in the franchise when Fredo is sadly taken.

Oh, and to answer Hank's question: The Godfather (1972). Easily.

Curious do you like gangster - mafioso flicks there's been a few great-ones in history ending at Goodfella's 1990, the quality vanished after that you had Casino but that's crime/drama.

The GF is rated 9.2 the greatest mob movie i'd say, cast - script & pace is perfect. Brando is great in Superman only to be surpassed for his portrayal of the Don, views maybe conflict but its a fact.

No I don't care for the genre. I'm sure Godfather deserves all the praise it gets though.

While I'd give the nod to part 1, I'd say that the edited version of 1 and 2 put together makes it one of the great epic stories ever, with near perfection.
