The spine typo: it is a typo. We even know how it happened: someone hit "save" and missed the apple key so only an "s" was added! We are reprinting the tray card. We have a bit of a problem in distributing the replacement tray card because trays, unlike booklets, can't just be tossed into an order...they have to be put in a jewel box and it's a real hassle. So the guys at SAE have been dreading this and I've tried to help them by giving them a little bit of breathing room. Any suggestions from you guys? Lukas I should think that all the uproar for a single typo is really a mouse giving birth to a mountain ! Some people should get a life ! Typos happen... all the time ! Still haven't received my CD... but looking forward to it ! Thank you for this release... the typo won't affect the music, i'm sure ! ;-)

Chinatown, John ;-) I agree, this is a real gem, and thank God someone else agrees about the players... I've been raving about that for awhile, I was just dumbstruck when I saw that note in the booklet, such a small group. This is really a perfect album, and I think good ammo for we "Horner-ites" in that the guy knows what he's doing. Lesser composers throw armies of musicians at a piece, since they can afford it, but it's men vs. boys to pull off a work where you have so few players, and make it sound like this one.

Well yes Chinatown! But even that score has more than ten players! Having so little at one's disposal is truly how you can tell if an artist has got the goods. I was seriously floored and really cannot believe that I put this off for so long. I am thankful for having listened to it now.

Testament's poster is as minimalist as its score. According to the IMDB, the film was originally shot as a made-for-TV movie. Paramount executives were so impressed with it that they released it in theaters as a feature. The cast sued the producers for higher pay, claiming they were paid television salaries and not feature film salaries. The case was settled out of court. Sounds about right. Hope the cast got more dough.

I finally got to see this movie yesterday. I'm a sucker for apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic films, so I don't know why it has taken me so long. It's a pretty good film, actually. Very sober, down-to-earth, the only sign of the actual nuclear blast is a bright light -- the rest is about experiencing the devastating effect it has on the suburban community and family. Interesting to note early performances of Kevin Costner and Rebecca de Mornay (who play a neighbouring couple), and John Williams' late mother-in-law Lurene Tuttle in another role. And Horner's score, of course -- subdued Americana, sparsely spotted, to underline the tragedy of the smalltown community. Some have argued it's too "manipulative", but I don't agree. It adds necessary heart, and - as I said - is sparingly used.
