The spine typo: it is a typo. We even know how it happened: someone hit "save"
and missed the apple key so only an "s" was added!

We are reprinting the tray card. We have a bit of a problem in distributing the
replacement tray card because trays, unlike booklets, can't just be tossed into
an order...they have to be put in a jewel box and it's a real hassle. So the guys at
SAE have been dreading this and I've tried to help them by giving them a little
bit of breathing room. Any suggestions from you guys?

Lukas

I should think that all the uproar for a single typo is really a mouse giving birth to a mountain !
Some people should get a life !

Typos happen... all the time !

Still haven't received my CD... but looking forward to it !
Thank you for this release... the typo won't affect the music, i'm sure ! ;-)

Don't get me wrong. As far as customer service goes, it's a sparkling gesture that sums up FSM in general.
I just think the whole thing is a bit extreme!
That's just me. I could never get upset or bothered about an extra S on one side of a spine of a CD, in relation to the quality of the booklet, sound and music I'm gonna be getting.
And as Lukas says, the main problem isn't just doing a reprint, the bigger problem is how to send out these inlays to customers without bending them and such, as they are usually protected within the back case.
Having just spent the past few days in Stratford-upon-Avon, it all seems to be Much Ado About Nothing wink

Was hoping this was paired with "The Dresser"

Sadly The Dresser wasn't Paramount, and I don't think Paramount likes labels mixing their catalogue titles with those of other studios.

I got my CD - with the extra S on the spine smile - the other week.
It sure is a thing of beauty, both the music and the packaging.
It's hard to believe this score was performed by only 10 players.
I've never heard so few performers sound so large and expansive.
And yet, on the other hand, never has such a full sound appeared so spare and intimate.
I think this score is a work of genius by James Horner. I would imagine this music went some way to getting him the FIELD OF DREAMS gig with Alden Robinson.
It's achingingly sad and tragic, but never syrupy or maudlin.
And he wasn't even thirty years old and in the middle of an 8 film streak that year!
Frightening wink

Received my copy in a great package that also included FSM's The Homecoming/Rascals & Robbers and City of Fear and am just in awe of how gorgeous and haunting this score is. I was not really prepared for it, for the simple but moving gestures to be so totally engaging. Even with this small group of players, Horner's voice shines through in terms of key shifts, harmonic intervals, certain turns of phrase... this one is a definite winner.

I just got my copy through the post (takes a little while to swim the Atlantic). I haven't listened to it yet, but the first thing I did was check the spine to see if I had a typo, and I haven't! Wah! I wanted a typo! wink

Hehe, I have a typo spine. Ordered from moviemusic but I guess it's only people who ordered from SAE will get a replacement. Not a problem though as it is the music that counts, and what music it is.
I'm a big Horner fan anyway (so according to some here I should have already heard this score wink) but I was blown away by the beauty of this score.
10 people! 10 PEOPLE! It's such a full score and yet very intimate at the same time. I've played it many times since receiving it and love it a bit more every time. It's beautiful.

I don't know what you guys are talking about.
No, and I repeat NO typo spine in my Testaments copy and in case I saw it I would never ask for a replacement.

Having just picked up a copy of this CD, I am floored by what I have been missing out on since FSM put this CD out. I cannot believe that this haunting, beautiful music was scored with ten players. The music is so chilling at times that I am having a hard time falling asleep now!

I was wondering, what are some other scores out there that are scored by equally small ensembles and to the same, great effect?

Chinatown, John ;-)

I agree, this is a real gem, and thank God someone else agrees about the players...
I've been raving about that for awhile, I was just dumbstruck when I saw that note in
the booklet, such a small group. This is really a perfect album, and I think good ammo
for we "Horner-ites" in that the guy knows what he's doing. Lesser composers throw
armies of musicians at a piece, since they can afford it, but it's men vs. boys to pull off
a work where you have so few players, and make it sound like this one.

For a "little" score, James Horner's TESTAMENT is an emotional powerhouse. Beautiful. Haunting. Superbly played. Though my favorite score by the composer is KRULL... it is a score like TESTAMENT that proves what a terrific composer he is.

I would love to see his SURVIVING tv movie be released. The film starred Zach Galligan and Molly Ringwald. The subject... teen suicide. A truly devastating movie. Beautifully scored by James Horner.

Well yes Chinatown! smile But even that score has more than ten players! Having so little at one's disposal is truly how you can tell if an artist has got the goods. I was seriously floored and really cannot believe that I put this off for so long. I am thankful for having listened to it now.

I too can see this shooting to the top of my favorite Horner soundtracks.

Testament's poster is as minimalist as its score.

According to the IMDB, the film was originally shot as a made-for-TV movie. Paramount executives were so impressed with it that they released it in theaters as a feature. The cast sued the producers for higher pay, claiming they were paid television salaries and not feature film salaries. The case was settled out of court.

Sounds about right. Hope the cast got more dough.

I just ordered Testament a few days ago, coincidentally. I haven't seen the movie, but the samples hooked me.

Check this one out, if you haven't already: http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.6377/.f

I finally got to see this movie yesterday. I'm a sucker for apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic films, so I don't know why it has taken me so long. It's a pretty good film, actually. Very sober, down-to-earth, the only sign of the actual nuclear blast is a bright light -- the rest is about experiencing the devastating effect it has on the suburban community and family. Interesting to note early performances of Kevin Costner and Rebecca de Mornay (who play a neighbouring couple), and John Williams' late mother-in-law Lurene Tuttle in another role. And Horner's score, of course -- subdued Americana, sparsely spotted, to underline the tragedy of the smalltown community. Some have argued it's too "manipulative", but I don't agree. It adds necessary heart, and - as I said - is sparingly used.

I just got this secondhand in the mail - Question - is there a typo on one of the spines? One reads TestamentS with an S at the end.

Gave the CD a spin last night, and it's lovely.

Haha, yes, the initial run had the typo down one spine (an extra S).
Lukas fixed it for those people it bothered, sending out amended inlays to the dispossessed.
If you got the original 'worng' edition, it means you're special and your copy is now worth 80 billion on the secondary market.

What's funny about that is as soon as I got the disc and saw it, I was pretty sure I would have noticed that in the proof. Sure enough, it wasn't there. I guess another very last minute tweak was done and it snuck in.

Anyway, enjoy the album!
