That's really interesting. Wow, what a mystery. It's like the Bond equivalent of "wind machine-gate". I'll have to revisit the film to hear how it's mixed on that. I've kind of gotten used to the down-mixing since the 2003 CD but it's always niggled as being not quite right.
It would have been supercool if the album presentation on disc 2 had actually been taken from the album master, so that these mixing differences could have been preserved.
I just had my first listen to this! What a great release!!! Looking forward to living with it until Octopussy arrives.
I think George Martin`s fantastic score is a perfect choice for the new Bond releases from LLL. The deep brass, thumping rhythm, pulsating strings and timpani sounding better than ever.
Martin`s score has long been underrated, with people preferring any Barry score above it. If not underrated, it has been overlooked by critics and Bond fans alike.
As people in hear will know, I am a Barry fanatic, but Martin did a better job with LALD than Barry did with The Man With the Golden Gun. I know Barry had little time to finish MWGG, but the quality of George Martin`s craftsmanship, genius orchestration and melodic instincts makes LALD one of the best Bond scores ever. He would have made an excellent choice for Roger Moore`s follow-up.
George Martin was such a gifted musician. It is sad he did not write more film music - or compose more music of any kind. A chameleon of styles, jazz, pop, classical, choral - he mastered it all.
Thank you so much La-La Land ! You've done an excellent job as far as I'm concerned. There are lots of little details here and there that I hadn't noticed before. The sound is very nice, dynamic but never aggressive. Silk for the ears! Bravo !
Once you’ve listened to the new album, studied Jon Burlingame’s essay, soaked in Dan Goldwasser’s art direction, and heard Brian McVickar’s podcast... put yourself into a deep slumber by learning about the sonic architects of Live and Let Die!

Thanks so much for the shout-out and for posting your incredible research video, Chris!
Martin's "Gun barrel" is the second most powerful in the entire series, right after Conti's "Gun barrel".
I really like Martin's and Conti's gunbarrels, but I still think the definitive one is the Diamonds Are Forever one, with the good old fashioned heavy guitar.
I relish the opportunity to disagree with Mr. Woolston on matters Barry.
The finest, fiercest gunbarrel (and the first, if I remember correctly) is Goldfinger's, followed by the more heavily orchestrated and electronically augmented On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
There, I said it. Though I agree the one from Diamonds is great too.

I'm also fond of the Moonraker one.
Cheers
Soft spot for Eric Serra's GoldenEye gun barrel and Michael Kamen's Licence To Kill (love the music chosen for the dots).
Die Another Day was my least favorite because of the techno music elements and the CGI bullet.
Gunbarrels? My favourite would probably be Michael Kamen's for LICENCE TO KILL.
I did recently pick up the expanded THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and there's a gunbarrel in the bonus material that's without all the electronics - that's a lot better than the finished version.
I think Martin's gunbarrel really packs a punch. Conti's is groovy and cool, but not quite as powerful for me. Kamen's is powerful in a different way, but Martin's really just threatens to blow the hair off my head.
I like Serra's gunbarrel and hope to see it released someday. Arnold's best is TWINE. Hamlisch's was kind of forgettable.
As for Barry, I never cared much for his post-Diamonds gunbarrels. His earlier ones are great, including OHMSS (that moog is gorgeous).
