HeHe..... Somewhere in Time (theme variation) sounds like its right out of Octopussy. Sounds like Bond trying to seduce Kristina Wayborn. big grin

Strange. I hear no similarity.

No similarity to the lounge cue playing at the Moonson Palace
or even Barry's own instrumental recording of All Time High featured on the flip side of the 45?

That theme variation reminded me ... somewhat ... of "Into Vienna" from The Living Daylights.

Got this CD today. Brief first listen impression:

• Generally the sound is warmer than on my BGOCD222 release. Strings and piano don't max out as much. This is something I have found before with (expanded) re-releases from soundtracks from around the late 1970s to early 1980s (other example: Conti's FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, Barry's BODY HEAT). I actually listened to the BGO release again a few times a short while ago and thought strings and piano were mixed so sharp and almost shrill (without breaking out), "they wouldn't do that anymore".

• I hear a tiny glitch at the 1:48 mark in track 17 A DAY TOGETHER (End Credits) that I cannot find in the BGO CD.

• To me, tracks 28 to 33 are all the biggest revelation of this new release. This is where this new CD is spectacular and gives me that goosepocks feeling of the first release. smile

I noticed this glitch aswell - very jarring, surely it's noticable to others?

A Day Together (End Credits)
Track Number #17

Yep; thank you very much...
Now that you have mentioned it...
..that is NOT a tiny glitch...

That - to me sounds more like an error in the mastering.
I wonder what happened there?

It happens on the 01:48 mark... (right after it changes from 01:47).
It is very obvious... you don't head phones to hear it!

Dam! I will need to use Audacity Software to clean it up I guess...

Listened to mine again...with headphones. Don't hear it at all.

Maybe only the 1st batch of copies were affected before it was noticed & fixed?

Hi Turbo; do you mean you hear something similar on track number #09 – the track name being: “A Day Together (Film Version) (??)
Apparently; it seems you can hear something between the 00:02– -00:03 second marks?
Fortunately; I didn’t hear anything… which is great.

However; I am annoyed by the – “End Credits” version of – “A Day Together”. The best way to describe that – (so called) – glitch; is that it sounds like someone had accidentally moved the “head-shell” – (the needle) – of a turn table – while the record is still playing… that is the kind of sound – (impression) – I get… you can’t miss it… it is so obvious.

If it does get fixed by – “La La Land Records” – I will buy an extra copy – because I am in love with this score – SO MUCH!
So please – check it out guys. Thanking you in advance!

Ditto. Also on track 9 between 2-3 second mark.

Same here, and perhaps at 1:12 or 1:13, but in the latter case I found it less clear if it's a sound quality issue or if it was simply just performed that way. But interesting both tracks affected are variations of the same title.

Sounds like very brief wobble in the analog tape speed, right?

At least that's what it sounds like to me. I can't say I'd noticed it until pointed out.

Cheers

Track 17 is on the original album and does not have any wobble

Sounds like master tape issues to me. Tapes are not getting better with age (and particularly those of the 1970s and 1980s). Considering the sad story of many UMG master tapes, it may very well be that the elements housed at Universal Pictures were the only option for this title - no chance to fill in from an alternate source.

Mine has the glitch as well. It's not a "pop" or anything. As described above, it's a "wobble" in the music for about half a second.

From the description, it sounds very like a glitch heard on the Star Trek: Voyager - Volume 2 set - on disc three, track 15, "Kim and Doc Plan in Corridor", about 2.55 into the track, there's a marked brief instance of warble, as if the machine running the tape abruptly changed speed, either during recording or transfer, or the tape momentarily snagged. It's not wow, per se, just a second-long error in speed, almost as if the tape is about to chew, but recovers - similar glitches occur on David Arnold's Shaft release (from memory, during the album take of Dominican Chase, for one). As they were both Paramount licenced releases, I wondered if it was not perhaps an anomaly of the tape stock or machines Paramount were using during that period. But, as Somewhere in Time is Universal, perhaps it's a more widespread, age-related issue.

Excuse my possible stupidity if I missed something but Somewhere In Time doesn't seem to be on Lalaland's website. Has it been withdrawn? I was just about to get it.

It's out of stock. I looked at my old order from July, and it says "This product cannot be reordered because it's out of stock."

I was going to add this to a big order to LLL but couldn't find it anywhere. I had to look up this thread to see where the heck it was. Odd that there is no listing of it at all.

It's a shame there are out of stock titles, and also titles that are not on sale. I most likely would have ordered another 3 releases.
