I can't make an official announcement but I am happy to say that we will be having BIG Steiner news about a release taking place later this summer. Steiner fans - and beyond - will hopefully be very excited about our forthcoming release. I wish I could say more but I at least wanted to let Max's fans know that he's coming back in a big way!

Great news Ray, thanks for letting us know in advance! Whatever it is I'll be purchasing it. But if it was So Big(1953) I'd be delighted, wonderful film, great score by Max!!!

Never again will I say "thanks for letting us know in advance"!

Lawyers. Hmmm. Must mean someone representing an estate (or estates) must sign off on rights or something. Often translates into property being highly protected. Or somebody extremely protective. Sort've like Salinger. And WB is involved. I have a hunch what the mystery release is. Big deal, hunches are like opinions and you know what they say about opinions. AAAAAAAAh who cares what they say. But first--Ray, am I warm...cold....red hot...semi-frigid...?

My hunch, and I am probably wrong ,are the estates of Gary Cooper and / or Marty Robbins.
In the meantime, March 14, 2018. Day 258. Nada !

My guess is Howard is thinking of THE HANGING TREE. Sure hope so. But aren't lawyers involved in ALL film scores to be issued on CDs?

Yes PFK, Howard is thinking of what I told you many months ago. Remember, all Ray had to do was say it is not that one. He has not.

But certainly more lawyers than the usual ones at WB would be involved with THE HANGING TREE as this movie was produced by Gary Cooper´s own production company Baroda which makes it so difficult to release. Besides the fact that in addition the Marty Robbins song not composed by Steiner must be licensed.

Yeah lawyers are involved one way or another all the time but something here smacks of protracted negotiations all right and that's from where my conjecture comes. And to my way of thinking it may mean another "composer"'s/estate's interests are involved. Signor Ray??

I think the last info we got from Ray Faiola about THE HANGING TREE was this one in 2011:

"90 per cent of the score survives in mono mag sound, including the song. Licensing, for song and score, is another bag of worms."

I hope this CD comes to fruition and am very grateful to Ray for going where others fear to tread. I love western scores and this Max Steiner score , with the important assistance of others, is the one I wanted most.

We begin a new week of hopeful expectation. Could this be the week of a joyful announcement from Ray ? Anyway March 19, 2018 Day 263 has come and gone. Nada.

I'm as keen to see this release as anyone, however I struggle to see the point of constantly needling Ray to say more than he is currently able to. Clearly there have been unanticipated bumps in the road and I'm sure that no one is more frustrated than Ray at the delays.

In the expectation that there will be nothing more worth reading on this thread until the release is properly announced, under a different subject, I shall no longer be checking in here.

It was never my intention to needle Ray. If there would be anyone I would want to needle it would be the lawyers and the party or parties involved in keeping this release from happening. I will let this thread sink. My vigil is over. If the big Max Steiner is ever released on CD,it would make an excellent book to read on what hurdles Ray had to jump to get it done.

Ray's a big boy, I think he can handle all this "needling." Took a lot worse on the Frankenstein...Wolf Man thread. smile
