Adding my lost-ambitious-film-school leaning.
Watching now & it is a fine film. The problem IS the final act. The second half, actually. Front loaded with three great kinetic William's action setpieces, while the back 90 settle into future-noir. The gear switching throws us off me thinks.

Definitely an interesting & worthy film, thanks Luckard for sharing your passion here FWIW.

'Agatha Goes To The Mall' fun sequence, could have lasted 15mins.

+10 pts Anne Lively is Jessica Harper- I always forget. Way kewl.

Nope, it's a masterpiece, and a hugely underrated Spielberg action film. Every time I go back to it, I like it more. Actually, one aspect I never connected with tremendously was the score. I remember sitting in the theater as a teenage proto-JW-fan joking with my brother that that Williams was phoning it in on this one. I've since come to appreciate the Herrmann-isms, but it's still nowhere near the top for me.

That said, for the first time in my life on God's green earth, I listened to the samples of the re-release and ACTUALLY PERCEIVED an increase in sound quality, even on my cheap speakers at work. If this is still around for the next La La Land sale, I might bite. [Hears the echo of his own words when E.T. was released and shudders...]

As previously mentioned, the ost is one of the best sounding recordings you will EVER hear.
If this improves upon that...!

jamesluckard’s enthusiasm for this film does my heart good to see on this board. It’s not on any list of mine, but I appreciate how far he went in with it.

Yeah, right! I don't think I'd be that deep into it that I'd be wanting Danny's wardrobe or whatever, but the calling Fox for all the specific music is a thing teenage me did far too often (in the pre-internet days).

Good on him.

Movie still fucking SUCKS. Kidding hahaha

I don't hear Herrmann but there is no mistake about it but Spyders is taken from Franz Waxman's Taras Bulba.

Guess is doesn’t always pay to be one of the first to order...I live in Washington State and still no shipping notice. Bummer but LLL always delivers. smile

Anyone else having a problem ripping the second half of disc one? Once I hit “Freezing Water”, my CD ROM drive cycles up and down, endlessly clicking. I rebooted, it did it again with “Another Vision”, and now can’t get the last two cues at all.

Disc Two copies fine. Also ripped half a dozen other albums with no problems at all.

Weird.

Oh, no.

This is probably the new norm.

I ripped my copy yesterday and didn't have any issues. May have gotten a bad disc - I ran into something similar before with another title, had it replaced and the new copy ripped without issue.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I was hoping to see some reviews to help me decide whether or not to get it. Is the sound improved? How good is the previously unreleased music? Thanks.

Have received mine yesterday - had no problem with ripping both CDs to my computer.

The score presentation itself is gorgeous. Anybody who enjoyed this score before will delight in the completeness of this now. The sound is excellent.

The sound quality is a huge improvement over the original release. As for the score itself, it's got it's merits, but I'm not sure that the score in its complete form shows it in its best light. In particular the first half of the score is a bit of a slog to get through.

To repeat: the ost is one of the BEST SOUNDING recordings ever!
If you are thinking about buying this for " improvedsound" you may be disappointed.

I am want to blame my disc drive in most (but not all!) cases, as it was notoriously fickle in exactly the same way with a handful of albums I owned (David Newman's Malone - one of my all-time favorites - similarly wouldn't rip the last four tracks or so, even after Intrada traded me a new copy and a later, second copy I got signed by Newman)
