That’s what I like about complete releases. I can make my own damn album.

But you're not a professional record producer! You don't know how!

Oh That’s right. Thanks for reminding me. wink

I'm on disc one and this so great. I'm definitely going to have to play Dan Goldwasser on this and re-arrange the cues to find my preferred versions. The album versions of the first two cues are just too perfect the way they are. "The Journey" sounds like 1990 Boston Pops slow, especially coming out of the glorious opening cue, so I'll just put on "Vampire Hunters" and be done with it. I can't wait to re-arrange this, though. What a score. The piano and music box stuff in "The Letter II" is just sublime.

Damn! Though I was one of the lucky hundred that got the shipping notice early, it seems that I've run out of luck now... The package seems lost, tracking is different from USPS and Swiss Post and hasn't been updated since 6 (USPS) and 9 (Swiss Post) days... And the good folks at LLL seem to be too busy with shipping out stuff to take care of this... in short - very disappointing frown

Give it time... mine sat for 10 days at the LA Airport.

Hm... according to the USPS tracking the package has left the states... but didn't show up in Switzerland... and according to Swiss Post tracking it hasn't even left the states. Very strange and very annoying.

It's the Christmas time and USPS also does not always update their tracking daily.

Give it time.

I've already whittled this mother down to 78 minutes. I could probably do a little more, but I love that love theme and didn't want to lose ANY of it.

I fear this one won't make it to my CD player by xmas thanks to the US postal system and Canadian postal strike (do they ever work??).. I guess I have to live vicariously through everyone else who received their copy already.

While I am impatiently awaiting for my copy to arrive, I was wondering if someone could tell us if the liner notes explain how Coppola came to hire Kilar and was the music recorded in L.A.?

Many Thanks,
Jay

There is a wonderful anecdote where Francis Ford Coppola asked Kilar on the phone in the middle of the night, if he would score the film? To which Kilar Responded "Well...its an offer I couldn't refuse!" big grin

The notes mention Coppola knew Kilar's classical compositions, and contacted the composer directly (with a 3am phone call) to ask him if he'd score the film.

The involvement of the Los Angeles Master Chorale suggests an LA recording, but I don't see a recording location listed.

Thank you very much for your prompt response. I cannot wait to hear the CD (all 3!)

Got mine today and listening now. Tremendous. I love the expanded intro with the vocal line over the harp. So moody. I have a fair bit of Kilar concert works so it’s wonderful to hear this expanded work for one of my fave scores of the ‘90s

D1, track 19 = worth admission $$. Glock & piano love theme variation....aye....yah. And the THREE tubas employed. Amazing.

Dan, your note mentions more variations of the opening that wouldn't fit - I'll spare the 'jr. armchair record producer' rant, but would you be willing to speak about these at all? How much more was there? Were they just very slight alternates, like taceted lines or clarinet taking flute lines, etc?

Great job here, this is going to get a lot of play. Excellent booklet & art direction, love the special guest star Doug Adam's contribution- just excellent throughout & I'm still midway in disc two.

So, those postal service deadbeats finally went back to work?
