Justin is exactly right. So much of this is out of the control of the label (who in this case seems to be the composer?). The people they're negotiating to do this have probably ninety more profitable things in line in front of this, and those ninety things keep changing.

Why would they bullshit you? What's their motivation?

...No firm release date yet but they are shooting for a 2nd Quarter 2017 target."

What does it mean? No release date (WOW!) but they are “shooting”? What? Bullshit for sure.

Well, it's SONY...so the stalling is typical from such a large entity. Trust me, SONY has far more important things in their queue than a paltry OST that will probably sell 1000-3000 copies if they are lucky. Be patient, it'll show. In the meantime, think about all those other 'grails' you got you couldn't wait for, got them and now haven't been listened to for months. Before you know it, this release will be collecting dust on your shelf and you can whine about the next one you have to wait for.

Yep and this will come out some day, I will continue to happily wait and enjoy all the other awesome music that's come out recently, and still coming!

Have to keep working on the "enjoy what you have" mantra for myself - I've got lots I haven't properly enjoyed yet.

big grin

I was reading on a couple of forums yesterday that there has been a setback to the Transformers release. It doesn't say why so I have asked for more details.

I'm assuming that it will be delayed due to Robert J Walsh's current health issues - which we learned about during the recent release of Revenge of the Ninja. I'll happily wait, and hope he gets well soon.

The posts in question suggested it wasn't health related. And apparently this project has been going on a decade. LLL's Beverly Hills Cop release took SIX years, so this one may be a record.

I'm not holding my breath for a 2017 release.

Alleged comment from Mr Walsh to someone in January, who posted it on alt.toys.transformers:

"Just starting, not finished. Hasbro is being difficult, so we are behind schedule on this by two months. TF first generation, 1983 ... that is the first album release we are doing."

I'm honestly not convinced this will ever be released. It's been going on forever. If Hasbro is still causing issues, it must be problematic.

Also, this plan to release it on blu baffles me.

Was there ever a Jem soundtrack that included the songs?

I seem to remember reading about some cassettes (yes, those) that came with dolls that had a couple songs on each. Or something.

Storybooks. I had the one for Secret of the Sword.

That's true! Fanmade collections of those songs were sold on Ebay years ago. I had both sets and they contained 4 cd's of songs. Short versions, long versions , instrumentals. I'm sure they can be found everywhere these days.

Someone on the Transformers forum has been informed by Rob Walsh that:

"Score is now remastered and in Sony Records hands for release"

Let's hope that Hasbro don't throw a spanner in the works.

Latest news from Robert J. Walsh on G1 score

Sep 4 - Rodimus_2316

Me: "Any word when the Transformers score DVDs will come out now?  It's already near the end of 3rd Q this year.  Please LMK."

Him: "Sony Records would know. It's in their hands, on CD and vinyl. I delivered the masters months ago."

*There was a bit of a wait after the masters of Revenge of the Ninja were given to Varese - so if not by the end of this year, here's hoping for early 2018! big grin

Yup. Any longer and I will die of old age before it shows up. Come on Sony! (if, indeed, it's in their control and not a licensing issue).

Sorry, my patience was gone one year ago. These are all bullshit.
No haunting is needed, the composer always said he owns all the tapes
No approval is needed, it's all under Hasbro
No production issues are needed: more than 12 months to print a cd? Are they kidding us?
All this is becoming ridiculous. They're just kidding us.
I will spend my money in some other, REAL, cd productions.

Geez, some people...

No haunting is needed, the composer always said he own all the tapes

You don't know what happened when the tapes were checked. They may have been incomplete, causing a hunt for alternative masters with the studio that holds them; some cues may have been damaged, again causing the aforementioned.

No approval is needed, it's all under Hasbro

Where in the world do you get these ideas?

Approval is always needed. First of all, we are lucky we get anything from Hasbro, as MV has previously stated it was hard to get even "He-Man" out.

Hasbro has to sign off on it, the composer has to sign off on it, the estate of living voice actors who song on the theme music, will want to sign off on it, and more likely. This stuff moves only as fast as the people who sign off, move, which as we know can take even a year or more.

No production issues are needed: more than one year to print a cd is simply a lie.

And you know this how? And where did anybody say it was taking a year to print a CD run?

All this is ridiculous. They're just kidding us.

Ah, fuck, you caught the labels! Yes, they throw all this money into releases in advance to produce them, master them, press them, have legal matters to clear up, just to jerk you around. Yup, that's one expensive time-consuming kid!

I will spend my money in some other, REAL, cd productions.
