The Near Future Is Now. I've been blissed out listening to the master all day. You unbearably lucky so-and-so. I cannot - repeat - cannot wait for this to be available. "A Song After Sundown" alone is worth the price of admission - but to have all of that other glorious Raksin music... simply heavenly.

"A Song After Sundown" alone is worth the price of admission - but to have all of that other glorious Raksin music... simply heavenly. One of the great themes of all time. And in addition to those brilliant Raksin dramatic cues, the jazz in the score is amazing, played by some of the greatest jazz players ever. I can only tell you it's completely addictive.

Just letting everyone know that Miss Wong is arriving VERY early, tomorrow morning to be exact and all copies will be shipped out then. Thanks to Miss Kwan being VERY gracious, most people who ordered will get a signed booklet - not quite everyone, but all but about thirty people, I think. We're going in strict order as the orders were received. Bruce, Big thank you for the CD. It arrived today, with an autographed booklet. Special thanks to Miss Kwan. Ditto that from me. This is an extraordinarily melodic and listenable score, and even Duning's source tracks are superb. Once again, the Kritzerland "do" has transformed a tired, bad-sounding old thing (the Spanish RCA release has sat on my shelf gathering dust after an initial listen several years ago) into a brand new listening experience, and one that will certainly get a lot of play around here. I hope that we'll see more George Duning scores from Bruce in the future. I hope also that this is selling well -- it's a dandy! Please let Ms. Kwan know how much her time and effort in autographing the booklets are appreciated by those of us lucky enough to have snagged one.

We told her at lunch how much people would appreciate this. She's quite amazing - still stunningly beautiful after all these years.

SUZIE WONG has disappeared at SAE. No it hasn't. I just checked.

It was gone this morning so I let Craig know - it's back, although he told me he's very low on stock.

This is a remarkably strong album. I've only seen bits of the film over the years, so this is just pointing up the music. If you love other music of the period, it's a no-brainer. If you wonder (as I often find I do lately) "am I going to hear that theme AGAIN?" Well, yes you are, but it shows up with real character and variety every time, so it doesn't wear me out. If you enjoy Joe Hisaishi, you will get some very strong echoes (well, pre-echoes) here, especially fun as you get occasional big-band jazz thrown in to vary the program (and the music feels right throughout). If you're wondering about the sound quality, it really sounds remarkably good for something recorded so hot (which is the one thing that really bugs me recordings, but isn't an issue here at all). Listen to the iTunes samples and you can hear how awful it used to sound - but this makes great headphone listening. And the cover art is just gorgeous, astonishing (and I never talk about that!). There are a number of fine scores from this period that I have and value but don't listen to much. This one will get repeat play right away. This score deserves a sell out. So sell it out! Thanks, Bruce. Well done on convincing me to give it a try.

Thanks, Bruce. Well done on convincing me to give it a try. Glad you took the chance and that you like it! Sadly, as I peruse this board it becomes increasingly clear that the majority of collectors who post here would rather have the fifth release of some 80s score than take a chance on this kind of classic film music. Thankfully, there are still the few who understand how great this stuff is and hopefully we'll sell out soon - there really aren't that many left - SAE told me they have to reorder and when they do we'll be down to our last 150 or so.
