Them's what I call liner notes! Another reason I'll miss FSM.

Beautiful notes.
No mention or crossed analysis to the several tv SHANE themes re-used and adapted for THE WILD BUNCH (e.g. in Attempt to save Angel, Assault on the train, All Clear, Drinking Song, etc.) but the research is pretty good indeed (top notes are those about the Julio Corona tracks).

Those hyperlinks and a few typos should be cleaned up directly! :-) In the meantime, I'm very glad you enjoyed the notes! I had the benefit of a lot of documentation on this release, and it was a pleasure to go through it all. And the contributions of Lukas and Jeff were, of course, invaluable.

Thanks Lukas! I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of this release. Any chance you would consider completing the set of brief reminiscences you'd been doing as part of the low quantity reports for your last set of CDs? I've really enjoyed reading those and have actually picked up some FSM CDs I was unaware of as a result of reading some of your blurbs!

Chris.

This is a wonderful release for fans of the film and score. So many of the extras are great that I can't put it into words- a practice I've never been very fond of before. This CD is a crowning glory for Lukas & Co. My prediction is that it'll be in my CD player long after I receive the new Intrada Goldsmith.

Outstanding work on these notes. Let's have a PDF version as soon as possible please.
(When I looked again a few days ago, the King Kong notes were still not available as PDF).

Another in FSM's long list of informative and well-researched commentaries. These things have solid value independent of the music or the album itself. Bravo!

Other labels, please listen and learn.

Agreed!
No one could beat them on their booklets and notes.
I find myself re-reading their notes and analysis time and again, whenever I drag a title off the shelf for a spin.
The stuff learned about films and scores like Jeremiah Johnson, Big Wednesday, Black Sunday and None But The Brave (just off the top of my head) is always worth revisiting, while listening to the scores.
I hope he (Lukas) influences the other labels he works with to expand their booklets and liner notes in a similar way.

I received my copy of “The Wild Bunch” yesterday and had a chance to listen to about half of the film score, Disc 1, last night. The quality of the sound is stunning – every instrument placed exactly into the mix with nuance and clarity – starting with the drum snares in the main title cue which are precise, crisp, and unsettling -- the musical equivalent of a lurking, coiling rattlesnake (or scorpion). Like all of Fielding’s music, for me at least, this creates a unique psychological realm – one in which precise details coalesce into beautiful soundscapes that often shatter, shimmer, or transmute. I had not listened to this music in a couple of years – I am now convinced that this is one of the greatest of scores (just IMHO).

The liner notes are indeed superb – helping to explicate the contours of the music and how it functions in the film. It seems like every CD that features music by Fielding for Peckinpah has a couple of stories that make me thank my lucky stars that I never had to interact with Peckinpah! It is astonishing to me that after hearing the first recording of the score he tried to fire Fielding. Thank God smart-Peckinpah triumphed over idiot-Peckinpah in this case.

This is a wonderful final release by FSM – one that I will be returning to over and over again.

Dont we have to thank Fielding's wife!!!? Who mediated and insisted and begged her husband to fight his corner and win Sam over.

Well, according to the liner notes, we also have to thank that chair that Jerry threw at Sam! I do get the impression that Mr. Peckinpah was surrounded by a host of collaborators who did their best to see that his projects got completed in a relatively coherent fashion -- often despite Mr. Peckinpah. Idiot-Peckinpah seemed to get the upper hand a great deal of the time.

The Wild Bunch is a great film and score. Can't wait to get this new CD set. Thanks Lukas for all the wonderful FSM CDs!

Lukas, will you continue to produce CDs for the other labels? Sure hope so. Thanks again!

This is a very comprehensive release. 74 tracks over 3 CDs nearly 3 1/2 hours of music. I just watched the Blu-ray version of the 1994 restored "original director's cut" of the film and enjoyed it. Also listened to the first CD of the new Film Score Monthly release. Starting the second CD now.

I was wondering has anyone compiled their own 70-80 minute collection of tracks from the 3 CDs to create a nice listening program and willing to share the list here? Thanks. I might eventually make my own list but I am brand new to this material.

My copy arrived today, what a sensational release, the sound quality and presentation are superb.
Congratulations to everybody involved in this wonderful release, finally, my favourite Fielding score, complete and sounding better than ever before.

Took me at least ten minutes of pressing, squeezing, twisting and pushing to eventually remove Disc 2 from the case. The superb sound quality makes it worth the effort though.
