Got my copy of this little gem on Friday.

I really like like both scores, but heck I have to confess that I love the Horner more than the Goldsmith.

Cheerz Lukaz! :-)

I've been waiting for THE HOMECOMING for years. The Horner score is just the icing on the cake. Just placed my order this morning. Now bring on THE RED PONY.

...or even "Crawlspace"!

The disc arrived a couple of days ago, and it is really a delight. What is fascinating to me is how thoroughly inventive and gorgeous the Goldsmith score is. Although it is only about 20 minutes long, and uses a smallish orchestra, it is just packed with beautiful musical ideas. The Horner is a pleasant piece of juvenilia, nothing that I will return to much (and I realize I may be in the minority here). I do regret that The Homecoming couldn't have been paired with another Goldsmith treat.

Great review James. I like both scores but prefer Horner's - especially the main theme but it is a great release.

Interesting comment you make about Goldsmith sharing a CD with Horner. It would interesting to learn what Horner thinks about sharing with Goldsmith!!! I assume (?) that the composer gets sent a copy of any new release.

A VERY cool bloke got this for me as I was in a cash crunch, and sadly still am. WONDERFUL stuff. Oh just to hear the beautiful Christmas Story music again. 30 years old and it sounds freaking awesome. I only wish Winter would come so I can be in my wintry wonderland and listen to the score. Great job Lukas

What's funny is, I'm listening to the Jerry title more than the James title, odd for me I know.

This is an absolutely gorgeous release -- grandly melodic, tender, expressive, just wonderfully evocative music. If anyone even remotely connects to Goldsmith's/Horner's music that veers into warmly emotive territory, this is a release you will love. Heck, I would think anyone would love this! Gets my highest recommendation for what it's worth.

And I must say, the Horner is pretty good too.

I must join in with the praise for this CD, definitely my CD of the year so far. Truly gorgeous stuff both from Jerry and young Jamie.

...this one [Rascals & Robbers] just bristles with fun and adventure. It's light and airy and brings with it fond memories of Horner arriving onto the scene with his zesty new sound and bravura...Horner's light and sprightly bouncing score.
Bring on WEASEL CREEK! wink

So true!smile

I started playing THE HOMECOMING for the holidays - what a fine score. I also have the DVD that I play every Christmas Eve.

Another big "Thank You" to Lukas and FSM for getting this out to us. It's hard to believe that this score is 40 years old this year - and the sound quality of the CD is first rate.

Simply wonderful!!!...:-)

A fine score from Goldsmith, even if it runs over 20 minutes. Nevertheless, I'm playing this score (plus other Christmas film scores) nonstop on my iPod every day.

My other two favorites for Christmas are:

HOME ALONE (1&2, Williams)
MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (Broughton)

Also, that 20 minutes of THE HOMECOMING is just perfect - it may be short, but it's LONG as a perfect listen...:-)

Just had to add two very fine scores, a terrific album, and they both nicely
compliment each other.

I played HOMECOMING when I first purchased it earlier this year, but at Christmastime it sounds even better.
