The girl in Walkabout as portrayed by Jenny Agutter is a powerful young woman for sure.

And acathla, I came very close to including the Duncan finale music for Buffy, but it didn’t seem like that ever attached to Buffy herself in a singular way, so I didn’t think it qualified. I guess if anything is Buffy’s Theme, it’s that rock main title? And I guess it could be considered powerful but I’ve never been a big fan to be honest. (I far prefer the Angel Main Title).

Yeah you are right. Its most likely more a "Slayer Power" theme. At least it is for women big grin
I love the Buffy main theme, but yes I agree, the Angel theme is ten times better!
But I did love the orchestral version of it from the final scene of the show (The War Against Evil)

Nothing starring Joan Crawford or Bette Davis has been mentioned?

Good question.

I'm thinking the closest to what I would call POWERFUL for a woman in this era would be BEYOND THE FOREST:

It doesn't get any better than this...

Oooo!!! I'd forgotten about this. This tops them all, I think.

While we’re on the subject of Elmer Bernstein, he wrote a DAMN powerful Main Title (I’d say one of the most powerful of his entire career!) for John Ford’s 7 WOMEN — play this and prepare to be blown away!

FSM released the complete score on CD years ago and it’s still available, paired with some great Hugo Friedhofer:

I'm sorry that Ripley never got her own kick-ass theme.

That's because Cameron hates themes.

TERMINATOR, TRUE LIES, TITANIC and AVATAR all have hugely memorable themes that get strong workouts in their respective scores (as does PIRANHA II if you want to get into the nitty-gritty). THE ABYSS I haven't seen/heard enough to have an opinion on.

Barbara Stanwyck may have had No Man of Her Own, but she had Hugo Friedhofer backing her.

The annoying thing about the James Cameron-produced Dark Angel it didn't have a memorable theme tune.(apologies to Public Enemy/MC Lyte fans) The TV show only used the first 21 seconds regularly. I'm pretty sure Joel McNeely's scores never included it.

NOT pretty, lovely, heart-swelling, gushing diatonics......

POWERFUL!!!

These adjectives can also be powerful depending on the context. But from your example with Bionic Woman, are you defining powerful as just loud?

I love Trevor Jones' GI Jane score. Very overlooked. Being a part of such a forgettable movie probably doesn't help.

Some of the choices I have read here – are hardly worth mentioning… dare I ask – are those themes – something that you can recall – IMMEDIATELY – without having to go back – and play it again for a refresher?

If you consider powerful as a means of being a bitch… then I guess –
Such nonsensical mentions as Hans Zimmer’s – ‘Wonder Woman Theme’ – might fit the bill perfectly.

• The question might need to be rewritten to:
‘What is the most – BAD-ASS THEME – ever composed for a woman?

Anyway…

Those who still in disagreement that Jerry Goldsmith’s Theme for the 1984 film – ‘SUPERGIRL’ – is indeed the most powerful theme – ever composed for a female character… (?)

Then how about taking a look at the opening credits to – ‘Superman: The Movie’ – with the – 'Main Title' – music – which was composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith – for:
SUPERGIRL – (1984)

It fits perfectly and it is indeed the most powerful theme for a woman ever composed!

I do get a laugh how "powerful" is just another term for "bitch" to some. Is every powerful man an "asshole" or a "bastard?" I think the question the thread title asks is "powerful theme" which also has no correlation to the matter if one could just hum it off the top of their head. Yes, Jerry fans, Supergirl is a great score. But very few people are humming that theme off the top of their heads.

So; say for example; you are taking a walk in the park:

At least once a month; you do hum the Trevor Jones G.I. Jane theme... as it makes you feel powerful; as it give you the power / energy you need to walk / run faster!

That's great correlation!

(Yep; I believe you).

You're going to have to explain this one to me. You're calling Wonder Woman a "bitch"? frown

Every theme I mentioned (including Goldsmith's Supergirl, even though I don't love that score), plus a lot that other people mentioned (including Zimmer's Wonder Woman) I can absolutely recall from memory with no trouble.

Off topic-ish... I never understood why "bitch" became such a nasty insult. Female canines are very admirable, loyal, brave, and protective. So it should be a compliment! (On the other side of things, telling someone they "have balls"... means they are sensitive and can be easily hurt?)

In closing, as this thread seems to me like it's starting to go off the rails, I leave you with my personal most powerful theme for a bitch, rather than a woman -- Andre Previn's main theme from The Sun Comes Up (1949):
http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/store/MP3/1320/4-01_Main_Title.mp3

Just INCREDIBLE that he wrote such a powerful theme for a 1949 Lassie movie as his first onscreen composing credit, when he was only 18 years old!

Powerful= Bad@ss. Not the other “B” word.

Yeah Morgan's theme in Cutthroat Island is pretty powerful/bad ass?
