If you knew how busy the USPS were then you'd realise accidents typically happen a lot

Strange that I can't recall, after dozens and dozens and dozens of purchases, ever receiving a CD from Intrada or Kritzerland that has a damaged case. Yet every single one of my last five or six single-disc Varese purchases has been smashed up.

Funny, I remember you & others chipping away at other labels mishaps, but with Varese's take-over you + others then backed-up. Now people are willing to beat the drum recently for irrelevant plastic - i only care the music & sleeves being 100%.

If Amazon's shipping material is so shoddy; why have I never had a single issue with any item Amazon has shipped to me with regard to CDs. And when I have had an issue, like twice in the last five years with a book, that was damaged, Amazon has replaced the same immediately.

Easy, Amazon use all different couriers one day it might be DHL another could be TNT, far as i know boutique labels use one post service in US - USPS which today looks like its going down the bog-hole.

I also find that no matter how poor the packaging is, I never have any cracked or damaged jewel cases supplied from Amazon UK or any other UK suppliers, whether arriving by courier or in the UK post. On the other hand, I get a very high percentage of damaged jewel cases from the US even though they are always extremely well packaged in cardboard mailers (kudos to Intrada and Kritzerland for packing CDs so securely that it takes me about an hour struggling to get the CD out of the box!). Sorry but I can only conclude that the problem really lies with the US postal service. Goodness knows what they do to them - stamp all over them perhaps...

Had a few CDS with Amazon Prime its no biggie products weren't damaged, Amazon too don't treat their workers with respect especially them big fulfilment centres where damage is possible, i agree the USPS only care for targets & £ - that has pissed-off some blue collar workers.

And some people may think those sleeves are "irrelevant". If the plastic is so irrelevant, why not just send the CDs in cardboard sleeves? the jewel case is part of the package. I would guess the group they are catering to - you know, the people who are paying $30 for COMPACT DISCS in 2019 - mostly care if their CD collection doesn't look like it came from a garage sale.

It seems like it's been a while since I ordered a normal CD from Varese - I did pick up the Elm Street box set when it was heavily discounted recently. I seem to recall it was sent in an envelope with no protection, but it arrived with no damage. Had I know they were using these horrible corrugated cardboard mailers, I would have spent the extra $5 and ordered from Intrada or SAE. Now I know.

I get a LOT of stuff from Amazon, many, many CDs, from them directly and from third-party sellers. There are a lot of broken cases when they use their blue and white envelopes, but that's the way it is. I don't return anything to them because of broken or cracked cases.

I know from first-hand experience that the USPS will not give a damn about little white boxes and frequently drop all manner of heavy packages on them - so that part IS their problem - they simply don't care. But these things happen - I've gotten cracked cases from just about everywhere. It's not the label's fault unless they're shipping in a non-padded envelope with no protection. It's the luck of the draw. I can go weeks without a cracked cast - I got twelve CDs today, from a lot of different places, in all kinds of packaging including a non-padded envelope - not a cracked case in the batch. Then suddenly there will be an epidemic of them. There's no rhyme or reason, really. With broken teeth on the plastic tray, that is, as Basil states, a pressing plant issue - it's all done high speed and it happens to every label anywhere in the world. I don't send those back either - why bother? It's annoying for everyone. I have cases here and I have plastic trays here.

f you knew how busy the USPS were then you'd realise accidents typically happen a lot, i won't shoot labels its not there fault - Varese packaging passes the test if its not abused by your regular Pats.

Been in purchasing/shipping/receiving business for almost 20 years.

I can assure you the issue is Varese using Naxos to ship and whoever Naxos has in their shipping department determining cheap vac-u-form envelopes is the way to go.

Buy from other vendors or consider setting up a mass internet protest thing that multiple people here can sign off on to send off to the better business bureau, naming names. Varese is willfully negligent if this many people have received broken material. Stick their feet to the fire, folks.

I just received my Air Force One 2-CD set in the mail the other day, and the jewel case was damaged. It's the first problem that I've had with Varese in a long time. But I'm just going to take it with a grain of salt, as I'm just going to download it into iTunes and make a physical backup. Then, I'll just store the AFO CD with all of my other scores. Life goes on.

I never got a shipping notice until I emailed Varese to ask what’s up. Turns out they dispatched it without updating my status and also because it’s international, they handed it off to some other shipping service that doesn’t have tracking....

I will definitely order from Intrada next time and pay a few extra bucks for peace of mind.

By the way, I had same problems with Raggedy Man! Is it even legal to change shipping carrier without any notification? For me, if I paid for shipping with USPS, it means that it MUST be ship by USPS, not by unknown company and without any working tracking number (also international shipping).

Ordered all three titles and received the "envelope" packaging that I refer to affectionately as "The Widowmaker."

Media Mail.

Not a single cracked case.

Heh. I got my shipping notice almost a week after I received my copy of Air Force One. I got mine intact, with a perfect case.

Actually as the person who started this post, I am pleased to report that Varese Sarabande responded to me when I called them instead of simply sending an email. The representative I dealt with was kind of enough to ship me at no charge at all a replacement double CD case for the Deluxe Edition of Air Force One.
This still does not excuse the negligent packing and shipping by Naxos but at least Varese Sarabande recognized this issue and corrected it in this instance.

'I have emailed Varese through their shipping company as directed on their website but I wonder what type of response I will get about a replacement jewel case. '

I've looked over the site, and unfortunately, cannot locate email contact for Varese. Can you please supply it here...

I'm starting to realize why the Start Trek Encore release hasn't sold out yet (well, that and no mixing bowls).

My question is: How many CDs need to be ordered at once to be considered by Naxos as a "bulk order"? I vaguely remember receiving the Spartacus set in a box, so I'm guessing "Townson size" to be the standard.

PS: Just received The Haunting in the cardboard mailer, even though I ordered through First Class and not Media Mail. Just a sliver on the back case. embarrassment
