**150 composer signed booklets will be randomly inserted into purchases made during the first week. Limit 1 per customer. Signed booklets are not guaranteed.

We WILL have autographs. Rob who is very much under the weather and we wish him well, was actually able to sign the covers we sent him. We were not expecting him too, but he surprised us by signing 150 of them for us. He really wanted to send his best regards to all his fans and didn't want to upset his loyal fans and the many who love this album.

Wow, that is awesome!! Is he doing any better health-wise?

That's extremely generous of him considering the circumstances. Sure hope he's feeling better soon.

So both the Original Score and the LP program clocks in about 28 minutes.
Hope that it's not the same tracks, because what you hear on the LP is not the same versions as heard in the movie.

I haven't received my copy yet but from what I can tell it contains only two previously unreleased tracks from the original score; tracks 17 and 18. Tracks 1-16 appear to be the same as on the LP (although the track timings differ slightly for several of the pieces). The LP tracks "Mind like waters" and "Love and peace" seem to be missing from the new CD (I didn't hear these tracks in the film either).
I rewatched the movie the other day and as far as I can tell over half of the LP tracks are the same versions as heard in the movie. Neither of the remaining LP tracks (mostly alternate versions of known pieces) are heard in the film as such. The film on the other hand contains quite a lot of unreleased music, including a number of oriental sounding (non-synthesizer) pieces by Michale J. Lewis.
The end credits music sounds like it's been edited together from the cues "Ninja power" (2nd part) and a portion from "Revenge of the ninja" in a slightly different version. I wish the latter was available on the new CD but I don't think it is.

As for the enhanced score; well, i believe this is just newly recorded music of existing material. I really don't like re-recordings of synth scores (especially if recorded with modern software synths) and I'd rather have preferred to have all the unreleased music from the original score instead.

One thing I find a bit strange is that according to the LP credits "the recording was made at Screenmusic West's 24-track recording facility in West Hollywood using their computer-assisted synthesizers and digital recording equipment." Walsh himself, however, claims that he recorded the music on a Teac 8-track machine using an Oberheim OB-Xa poly-synth, Oberheim DX drum machine, a 1968 Les Paul guitar and a couple of timpanis. The LP credits seem to be wrong therefore.

Some things to note:

For the Enhanced portion of the CD Robert Walsh took the analog tracks from tape and with a tempo map rebuilt each of his favorite cues. The enhanced cues do have a vintage sound because he retained so much of the key original elements. You might be surprised by the results, I recommend giving them a chance. Keep in mind, Robert wanted to add value to the package since all he had were the original cues featured on the album (pretty much 16 tracks from the original LP and 2 bonus cues he had that we added as tracks #17 & 18). He really loves his fans and wanted to do something special for them.

As for the notes from the original LP, when we reissue anything from our catalog, we use the original credits. When an album is prepped for release, whether it was 1983 or today, we use the information given to us by the composer as we should.

From his own bio: Session guitarist and singer in Los Angeles ... recording studio owner, independent audio engineer on many record albums, and CEO of Screenmusic West in Los Angeles, a jingle production company. On-screen guitarist for the nationally syndicated show, The Midnight Special. --- So there is a reason why the studio was used and credited on the original album, even if it was simply to mix and prep the release for LP.

Hope this explains some things...

---

If you listen to the soundclips on Vareses site (Track no 1 Ninja Karma), that track is not featured on the original LP (the track title is, but not the soundclip itself).

# - The CD version of NINJA KARMA is the scene when Cho's family is assassinated in the beginning of the movie.

# - The old LP version of NINJA KARMA is the scene when Cho and Braden prepare to fight on the roofs tennis court at the end of the movie.

OK, thank you for clarifying that.

Yes you're right about that!

It means we get three previously unreleased tracks plus the enhanced portion of course.

Though I've never even seen the movie, I just had to order this, found the samples just too much fun. Just received it with the little box of horrors (which is too cute) - and there was an autographed booklet! I'm feeling a little sheepish that I got one and haven't even heard all the music anywhere before - but yes, I'm keeping it. wink

Thanks, Varese and Mr. Walsh!

Received my copy today. Bummed I was not a lucky one to get an autographed copy. However, I am ecstatic to finally have this score. Thanks Varese.

Just listening to the CD now. Great stuff!

The old LP version of NINJA KARMA is Track 17, TERROR on the new CD.

If you think the music is fun, you definitely have to get "Revenge of the Ninja" AND "Ninja III, the domination". The films top the music.

I was fortunate enough to get a signed booklet much to my surprise. Thank you Mr. Walsh and good health to you, sir. (and I can actually read the signature!)

Thanks to Varese for releasing this on CD. What a blast from the past. I loved these ninja movies when I was a kid but it's been decades since I watched one. I remember one year in elementary school when almost every boy in my class dressed up as a ninja for Halloween, and at recess we'd drool over catalogs advertising shurikens, swords and nunchaku.

It was very kind of Mr. Walsh to sign booklets for fans, especially considering the circumstances. Class act, and talented composer/musician. I'm having fun A/B'ing the enhanced tracks with their original versions.

Yes, this two tracks are missing from the CD. Tracks 17 and 18 sound rather similar. Perhaps 17 is an alternate of 18. There are also some differences between the LP-tracks and CD-tracks. "Suprise Attack" starts on the LP with a big "whoosh" that's missing on the CD. "Sneak Attack" is over 30 seconds longer on the LP. This are only two examples. The CD (tracks 1-18) is a rather different presentation of the score, not a strict re-issue of the LP.

17 and 18 begin exactly the same but go in different directions 3/4 through.

Thank you!! Received my copy last week and was surprised to have gotten an autograph! An A+ score that I have already listened to half a dozen times. Love the additional material along with the re-mastering.
All my best to Mr. Walsh and hopes for a speedy recovery.

Thank you for this amazing gem!!

Sincerely
Me

Mine arrived today with an autographed booklet! Wooo!

Went straight to "Ninja Power" my favorite track.

Sounds fantastic. I'll be spinning this all day.

Thanks Varese!
