I would assume it's Intrada for all 4. I bet you they worked out something. I can't believe that getting the last 2 during the first half of the year was a coincidence. Plus, with this being the 40th anniversary of the original, I'm calling it now I hope I'm right. There was also a post from Doug Fake a year or so ago, where he explained why the expanded "Jaws" release of (good lord!) fifteen years ago sounds so crummy (essentially, too much processing to remove hiss) but the good news was the tapes sound much better. It doesn't guarantee an Intrada release of the original, but it sure hints at it. Here's Doug's actual quote: "What happened on that anniversary release is this: the actual, original three-channel recording session masters, long dormant, were finally pulled and the decision to remix them into 5.1 sound to accompany the audio restoration of the film happened. Those new mixes became the new music masters that were vaulted after the film restoration. This new 5.1 mix for the film was an okay idea, of course, but did not fold back down to two-track stereo very well. On top of that, the nominal hiss present in 1975 35mm three-channel stereo session recordings (most Universal scoring sessions were then recorded this way) was deemed too intrusive for the film restoration and greatly suppressed, necessitating new EQ settings which oddly reduced rather than enhanced the listening experience. Everyone we have ever spoken with about this seems disappointed in the sound of that first-ever release of the actual soundtrack. And this is, of course, as famous a soundtrack as there ever was! But, in some of the coolest news soundtrack fans will probably ever hear, those precious original three-channel stereo sessions do survive, every priceless roll, fully intact and un-tampered with."

All this jibber-jabber about this score finally broke me down. Look, I've always avoided the Jaws sequels, never saw a one of them. After Jaws, there just seemed to be no point, the great movie was already made. (I do have the old albums of 1 and 2 of course, Jaws was one of my first score albums.) But you all keep hammering and hammering on this, I kept listening and listening to the clips, and I couldn't even convince myself that the Rite of Spring bits were just too on the nose. That's right, you all made me buy this - and Jaws 4 too while I'm at it! Your fault entirely. Should I see the movies?

Should I see the movies? JAWS 2 is a reasonable sequel. Has a lot of the same DNA, but never scales the heights of the original. JAWS 3 is fun if you enjoy shlocky aquatic creature features (which I do) and ignore that the fact that it contains characters with the surname Brody. JAWS: THE REVENGE is fucking awful. This still of the shitty miniature used in the (reshot) finale should tell you everything you need to know.

This is a truly stunning release - excellent sound - and a restoration of beauty. Okay, I'm going to be a little picky. As suspected, "Dolphin Chase (telex)" is, in fact, the film version of that cue and should, perhaps, have been in the main score sequence. It's one of the my favourite scenes/cues and is the only place where Williams' shark motif makes a "classic" appearance. But at least it's on there! Wow... this set is just a dream come true! Edit: Interesting, also, that some of the CD TEXT titles are different from their printed counterparts - revealing in some cases the original cue titles. Disc 1, track 6 being "Attack" for example.

Have not received mine yet. Having the complete score and all those alternates and source music is much better than I ever expected. But some of the sequencing do seem a bit odd. I don't know the reason why the film version of Dolphin Chase and Park Oppening are in Cd 2, maybe it was Parker who prerred to keep the original/album versions in Cd1? Also Underwater Kingdom is the original/album version of Sub Search, in that case both are included in Cd1 instead of only the film version, but they're very different and this seems to justify it. Another thing is the Attack on the Skiers, the begining of the track is the scene were the fin rises behind the skiers before they fall in the water, then there seems to be a crossfade to the sequence on which the big shark appears for the first time on the window of the underwater restaurant. The later was part of the album track Panic at Sea World and should occur chronologically before the attack on the skiers. I can hardly wait to have this release, but I anticipate that it will need some reorganing in order that a chronological version of the score in the film can be programmed.

Of course, mine arrived YESTERDAY, the ONE DAY this week I wouldn't be at home in the morning to sign for it. Picked it up from the post office this morning and brought my laptop to work so I could rip it to my iPod and listen to it on my way home. I'm skipping around the two discs now on my lunch break and they are MAGNIFICENT.

I've now listened to the whole thing three times and I stand by my "magnificent" statement. New highlights: Kay Rides The Whale, Love Theme (Revised), Shark Attacks Skiers, Restaurant Source.

If someone with more patience than I could post a proper re-sequencing, I'd be eternally grateful. It seems like there are a lot of tracks out of order.

I'm sure INTRADA were going for an order that makes MUSICAL sense. Which is what every album producer should.

If someone with more patience than I could post a proper re-sequencing, I'd be eternally grateful. It seems like there are a lot of tracks out of order. Having listened I'm very happy with this set. Very good sound quality even if some minor degradation can be perceived in the source -(e.g Kay Rides the Whale from 0'27"). A fantastic presentation of a grail I wanted for many years! If you want to program a chronological "film version" you must program: 1) JAWS 3-D - Main Title (Film Version) 2) First Underwater (only the first 7 seconds are used - the last 13 seconds are used later in the film as a stinger for Overman's death 3) Shark Thru Gate (also used in the previous scene when the shark approaches the skiers and later when Kay sees Overman's body) 4) Kay Rides the Whale (fades out in the film after the first 50 seconds) 5) Sean Arrives (Source) - also used latter, when tourists visits the underwater tunnels) 6) Overman's Last Dive (this track is not used in the film [replaced by the final part of Undersea Kingdom and the stinger that ends teack 2] - this original version it matches an early cut of the scene "workprint cut" available at Youtube) 7) Rock Bar (Source)* 8) Exterior Bar (Source)* 9) Love Scene (Revised) 10) Boys in the Raft (only the first 7 seconds are used) 11) Apartment (Source)* 12) Kay Meets Phillip (Revised) 13) Sub Search (Revised) - [you can mix "Cd2 - Sting 4" at 3'20" for the moray eel scare] 14) Dolphin Chase (Telex Version)* 15) Lunch Restaurant (Source)* 16) Night Capture (Revised) 17) It's Alive-Sea World Opening Day-Silver Bullet (It's Alive is the film version but Opening Day and Silver Bullet are different to the film versions) 18) Country Music Show (source) - This track occurs between the film version of Opening Day and Silver Bullet - both included in CD2 track "Park Opening" - from CD2 19) Park Opening (Revised)* 20) Baby Shark Dies 21) Restaurant Source (Flute & Harp) 22) Shark Breaks Loose+Shark Loose (the film mixes portions of these two tracks for the scenes on which the big shark swims towards the restaurant) 23) Shark Attacks Skiers (this track cross fades - out of order - the track for attack on the skiers with the track for the shark apearing in the restaurant [which was "clean" in the album version of "Panic at the Sea World"] and ends with unused material) 24) Hawaiian Drums (Source)* - this track occurs after the shark appearing in the restaurant 25) Guitar Show (Source)* - this track occurs before the attack on the skiers 26) Shark Attacks Kelly 27) Shark Rams Tunnel (Revised) 28) Live Bait 29) Phillip's Demise (Revised) - in the movie the ending of this track is replaced with a portion of Shark Attacks Skiers. 30) Pull the Pin (Revised) 31) Shark Theme (Utility No. 2)* - this is the track used for the shark breaking loose from the filtration pipe were it was trapped 32) Shark Wants Out 33) Shark Chases Mike and Kay 34) We're Saved 35) Shark Breaks Thru Window (Telex Version)* - this is the film version 36) The Shark Gonna Hit Us 37) Jaws 3-D End Title (Tracks from CD1 not listed above are unused) How I programed (without the source music in the score program) / tracks with * are from CD2: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 8*, 14, 16, 11*, 17, 29, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30, 19*, 31, 32, 33, 16*, 35, 37. An alternate program I like replaces: - Track 1 from CD1 with track 1 from CD 2 (the film versions includes some inserts edited in the track, I think the version without the inserts plays better); - Track 12 from CD 1 with track 10 from CD1 (depending on your preference - as they are very different except from the ending you can keep both in the program) - Track 14 from CD1 with track 10 from CD2 (I prefer the track from CD2, it is extended from the film version and IMO plays better) - Track 28 from CD1 with track 13 from CD2 (I got used with the extended version from CD2 that was in the album) - Track 32 from CD1 with track 15 from CD2 (again I got used with the album version at CD2)
