Ah, so that's Eric Tomlinson! I was wondering what Christopher Plummer had to do with the podcast.
Anyway, despite having been almost defeated by a brooding sense of ennui and insomnia for several months now, I decided to try to battle it and get back on track. And so, after probably two and a half years, I'm trying to catch up with the podcasts, alternating between recent ones and early ones. I'd better write everything down or I'll lose the place.
I heard the Chris Malone one during three sessions of housecleaning. I never would have thought that tech talk would have interested me so much. It really was an eye (ear?) opener, and a reminder to me to spare a thought for those at the speciality labels who do their utmost to make things sound as good as they can. It's so easy to write a flippant comment here (for example) about "crap sound", almost blaming the labels for releasing such a sub-par product (of whatever score). The other point is that I am now more aware of sound quality when I've spent decades here proclaiming that I'm not an audiophile. Well, I'm still not, but I will now take into consideration the sound issue with more seriousness. The downside is that I now feel I need to upgrade all those scores which were initially released in "as good as possible" sound back then, but have now been redone in "as good as possible" sound today. Great podcast, all three and a half hours of it. Very interesting throughout. Top marks to all!
I also listened to the Leonard Slatkin one. These kinds of podcasts are very revealing about what made Goldsmith tick. Was it Slatkin who said that Goldsmith and Lionel Newman were very funny together, with Goldsmith making all those sly political comments (as in "industry politics")?
I commented on another thread that I'd listened to the podcast about Gunsmoke and watched the episode "Love Thy Neighbor" just because I'd heard one of the cues in a Twilight Zone. What am I supposed to do now? Watch every Goldsmith-scored episode of Gunsmoke three times? I haven't even finished my Twilight Zone DVD box set, and I've been on the case for ten years.
Just cleaned the house (one hour) to the CITY OF FEAR podcast. It was just coincidental that OnyaBirri started a thread on this score the other day. After having listened to the podcast I need to get that CD. And watch the film. How do you guys find the time to do other things?
Anyway, I'm beginning to hear things through new ears and see things through new eyes. Thanks for waking me up guys after years of complacency. If I continue like this I might become as lucid as Gerald Fried when I'm 92.

I thank you for that, Graham. With the interviews, there isn't really a takeaway, but if there was one, for both the Chris and the Neil interviews, that would be it.

Just played the new 3 and a half hour Chris Malone Interview. Most Illuminating. I wonder who'll be the first one over 4 hours ?.
In all honesty, this one was almost over 4 hours. After our initial conversation, I was *very* tempted to record a followup with Chris (and he was willing) in order to further discuss his work on the Paramount westerns box set (my favorite release of 2019, which we barely touched on) and, to a lesser extent, the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea set. If this had happened, I rather suspect we would have broken the 4 hour mark. I kinda regret not covering those more, but on the other hand I do realize the length of this was already ridiculous. However, Chris is so engaging and informative that I think the time kinda flies by when listening. In fact that's why we decided not to split this interview in two like we did with the Townson, Davoodi, and Bulk interviews -- there was frankly no good break point. Each subject flowed so smoothly into the next. So we figured to just leave it intact, and it's still been very successful/popular so I think we made the right call.

Nice new Spotlight Podcast series. It's good to hear a score that I wasn't familiar with. In it Yavar mentioned a series of Podcasts that Douglass and Roger did over the past year but I can't find them on iTunes anyway. Where should I be looking ?.

Thanks and sorry, David. A lot of life has happened to all of us in the past half-year/year/year-and-a-half. For some of us, some of that is winding down. It's been a speed bump, not a stop, and one we feel as well. We all want new, regular episodes to be more regularly back too.

Thanks, George. It's been very tough, for me at least, to gauge this one, the episode, I mean, still so close to the chaos of it. The music is quite a good listen, for sure, tied for my top so far of the scores I've covered with the team.
