And that's why I use that clip sometimes. It perfectly sums up how many of us feel when a release like this is announced.

Great news. I hope the packaging meshes aesthetically with the Ron Jones set, 'cuz that's what this will be sitting beside on my shelf.

Anyone else going to the special screening of the episode in movie theaters tomorrow? I believe it's a nationwide one-day thing, but could be wrong.

It was also in Canada, but unfortunately I was working and not able to make it. I'll be making up for that by purchasing TNG Season 3 on Blu-Ray Day 1.

This really is a golden age for Star Trek.

A Lukas Kendall production? Yay. He's finally been able to close the tiny little gap in his masterful Ron Jones box. Very happy.

Lookin' forward to the sparkly new sound.

Have to disagree on the artwork... just a rectangular still with the borders faded? I know that it's a TV episode and not a movie, but I was hoping for a more elaborate composition, or at least one made with less lazyness.

I agree that the cover's not that great (are any of GNP's covers great?) BUT it's definitely a HUGE improvement over the original issue:

There's some superior alternate artwork here:
http://www.startreksoundtracks.com/tng/bothworlds.html

I believe it may have been made by a poster here, and I think perhaps there was also a cover made for the BoBW material in the Ron Jones TNG Box by yet another poster...

Yep, that's also true. Most the old GNP covers for the TNG series were dreadful or corny (or both). So yes, it could have been much worse

Yeah and those images were not approved for us on this release

Folks seem to forget that labels are sometimes very limited at what they can use.

It's always easier to bitch about something that was done nearly 22 years ago back in the old PASTE UP DAYS..

As covers go, it wasn't all that bad and it helped sell the product.

The new cover is cleaner and more to the point.

You beat me to it, Ford! (And why not?)

Sometimes, fans have an advantage. They don't have to get approvals!

I always keep that in mind, Ford. But the fact remains that Jim Titus can do so much with so little and other designers seem to do very little even if they do have decent material. Look at this fan-made cover Sarge did in the Bad Girls thread with just the official studio artwork:

Spymaster took just 5 minutes to make this one from the DVD cover that LLL used (perhaps had to use?):

Now look at the actual cover:

Honestly, even if some of these designers are your friends I don't think you can say that they're all equally talented.

P.S. I just hope Sarge or somebody else talented eventually gets around to doing a good cover for The Edge...

Same guy on both accounts. I have the benefit of just being a fan messing around with things and using whatever I can find. Of course, that means I'm also limited to what I can find, and could get a cease and desist order* from CBS or any of the labels if they so wished.

The key art being used to promote the BOBW film screenings would be perfect for a cover. No idea why GNP wouldn't be allowed to use that, but rights and permissions on artwork can be tricky.

* I got one years ago to remove Enterprise promos from my Star Trek Soundtracks site.

REALITY CHECK: The images that you guys used on these "FANB MADE" covers wasn't approved for usage on the LA LA LAND RELEASE by the STUDIO.

That's just a cold fact of LIFE

You ca only use what they APPROVE AND GIVE YOU.

The Cover on the OFFICIAL RELEASE is far from awful.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

They asked, but that artwork for whatever reason wasn't approved for usage on this sort of release by the studio.

That's life.

Didn't mean to hit a nerve, Ford, but the second "fan made" cover I posted used the exact same artwork as LLL's release, and though it was made in 5 minutes and kinda looks like it I still think it's better done than LLL's official cover. Do you really dispute that given the exact same material Jim Titus couldn't have done a better job for LLL? That's all I'm saying. The "this is what was given to us by the studio" doesn't ever seem to need to be brought out when defending certain designer's covers; it's always brought out to defend the same handful of designers. That said, I don't think any of the regular designers *always* do poorly. Even Mr. Fein, whose work many people including me absolutely hate, did a great looking job on the Friday the 13th box!

That also FAILS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT, how the studio wanted it to look.

Sometimes placement of things like ORIGINAL SCORE,Composed by,etc is not something the label has much choice in due whatever guidelines they are given by the studio.

That's the nice thing about "Fan Made" things, they can just pull it from their asses and never have to deal with the lawyers.

If you are unhappy with the LA LA LAND RECORDS release of BAD GIRLS, the folks to take that issue up with is Michael V. Gerhard and Matt Verboys.

Their office number and email is on their website.

Ford, could you post a track listing for the new Best of Both Worlds release?
