I love Georges Delerue; I think he's one of the very best . . . it's ironic that he won an Oscar for A Little Romance -- possibly his least interesting score (a very poor man's Vivaldi). Although, I have a feeling that the Oscar was probably more of an homage to his entire body of work. Take, for example, the outrage of Gregory Peck winning the Best Actor Oscar for To Kill A Mockingbird over Peter O'Toole's dazzling "debut" in Lawrence of Arabia. I'm pretty sure Peck's Oscar was a "lifetime achievement" award. And, while I'm at it, Mockingbird's laughably dated Hollywood/liberal/PC adapted screenplay won the Oscar over Lawrence's brilliant script. For what it's worth, Steven Spielberg said the Lawrence script is possibly the best screenplay ever written.
Spielberg's opinion explains why I'm so grossly underwhelmed by his work.
Maybe it's because I've never seen the film (which is a whole other ball of wax, so it's not worth derailing the thread over), but I'd nominate STAR WARS for this title.
Judging by the answers so far, one person's "most over-rated" score is another's "best score ever". Some of my all time favorites have been mentioned as well as several that I would say are the most over-rated. No point in saying which, 'cause this thread is just troll bait.

Wise words. I generally hate threads like this since not only is there no definite answer but anything you say can instigate a fight... and yet, I threw my hat in anyway!
I have to agree with those that say all opinions stated in this thread are, well, opinions! I was not even going to contribute but, however, I must admit I still cannot believe Elliot Goldenthal got the Oscar for Frida instead of Elmer Bernstein for Far From Heaven. I cannot get over it.
