I wonder if The Power will get a separate re-issue someday now that the original masters were found? . . . but it sounds like crap. The earlier version (which sounds perfectly decent) derived from a quarter-inch open-reel demo version that was prepared for a possible MGM records release of the soundtrack. No album was issued at the time. The first Miklos Rozsa score in five years and nobody thought there was a need for an album! Those were the days. Some years later both Rozsa and Pal happened to speak at a film conference at Indiana University, where the Rozsa Society was headquartered at the time (1977). Rozsa, who did not generally retain audio recordings of his film scores, casually mentioned that Mr. Pal might just possess such a recording from THE POWER and we ought to ask him about it. Rozsa departed that day, Pal arrived the following morning, and yes, he would be happy to share the tape with us. It circulated first among Rozsa Society members and later on one of those Tony Thomas "private" LP productions. But of course the FSM Rozsa Treasury version, direct from the archives, is superior in all respects, being complete, scrupulously documented, and sonically pristine.

I finally ordered this a couple of days ago, didn't want to miss out. Good job I did, it's down to 13 copies now! I don't think it'll last until the end of the month, perhaps not even the weekend...
