the last airbender featuring juno reactor

I don't find similarites in that sentence. Altough, I'm a big fan of the material Davis make in those movies, even Juno Reactor material.

Like, i said, is still JNH and sounds like JNH

I'll take ethnic JNH any day of the week! Sounds good.

Uh Huh. Thor, your views on JNH fascinate me. ALL JNH ALL THE TIME! That the first time I've heard you have a positive response to an unheard -soon to be JNH score. This score is fantastic news and I'm happy that you are actually excited about it and not leery. Ha!

What I meant to say there is that the prospect of JNH and ethnic music is always tantalizing, as history has shown. I'm currently in the process of actually listening to it, now that's it been released, and I'm a bit more torn. Some good moments, some not so much. I'll chime in with a more fullbodied response later.

I think this is the best we can hope for when it comes to Hollywood scoring -- some good bits.

"Bits" being the central word. It hardly ever sets into anything.

Listened to some tracks.

Prologue
Hot garbage until 1:10 when a decent part begins that it what I assume is the main theme, but dwindles away too quickly. 4:22 in more.
Aside from those two small parts, crap.

Return
A decent track, but ruined for a repeat listen by those annoying iiiiyaya women vocals that sound like those two annoying wailing women tracks from the rejected score to 'Troy" (which is otherwise a choral epic masterpiece).

Storming Fang
More hot garbage until about 2:41 in. But even then it's still just descent.

Noi and the Ongis
I want those two minutes and thirty-seven seconds of my life back.

Bailed on the score after that last cue. This feels like a waste of Howard's time.

They should have just hired James L. Venable to do an approximation of his "Samurai Jack" work; it would have been more enjoyable and cost the music budget less.

I second your assessment.

Not his most memorable work, but I enjoyed it more than any of the other scores that landed in the 2020's so far.

"Prologue", "Running on Raindrops", "Return", and "The New World" are the highlights for me.

so... where's the CD?

Based on the subject matter, I'm sure a CD will be issued in Japan.
I'm not too sold on all the ethnic wailing/percussion AVATAR style music, but the typically great JNH cues are fine.
At 68 minutes, I'm sure there will be a cool 35-40 minute programme I could grab.
That Raindrops track was indeed lovely, but there were other nice highlights too.

I was hoping you were exaggerating, it couldn't be that bad, but you were spot on.
I can't believe this was from JNH. This is Disney right? The company that knew the importance of music in film?

I think this is what a sequel score for AVATAR would sound like from JNH.

Btw, is Hot Garbage a lot worse than Cold Garbage?
I always thought 'hot' was...well, Hot!!
Like, 'damn, that's some hot shit' or 'Whoa, She's Hot'

Give the score six months. It'll be cold garbage by then...

I found it to be thoroughly entertaining, probably his best since Maleficent. And I definitely agree that this is what his version of Avatar 2 would sound like.

Nah, I think he would do something much better than this for an Avatar film. He clearly got steered in the wrong direction when writing this score.

I think both A Hidden Life and News of the World are much better scores than Raya. And definitely hope that he would write a much superior score for Avatar 2 - should he be asked to score the movie.
