Yavar, she is fine. She quit the board, and we hope that someday she will return.

Nooo! (Why?) I certainly do hope she returns.

Yavar

They're not referring to our resident composer-without-disclosure--WagnerAlmighty--so you need not worry.

She's currently going through a metamorphosis, hanging from her bedroom ceiling, caterpillar-like, waiting to re-emerge as 'AbaCabbaDabba' or 'BeethovenBangs' or some such.
She might not even be INTO Alfred Newman or Jerry Goldsmith anymore.
Balfe may be her thing now. She's a Crrrrraaaaaaaazy Cat.

Yes Wa may not even be a composer this time.
Who knows what the next rebirth will bring.
Whatever it becomes, lets hope its forgotten the phrase "help me get into..."

Yes longer time when you hit post message. We could be back to more....double posts!!

Thanks for bringing her up, but I can worry about both. I'm sure WagnerAlmighty is not the only "composer-without-disclosure" here; why should she have to share her identity? If it matters she did tell me her identity via private email and I can confirm she is indeed a composer as she says -- probably not one most here would be familiar with (before I knew who she actually was, I had incorrectly guessed Jessica Curry, based on her work in the game industry).

Some here may not remember but WagnerAlmighty previously disappeared from the board once for 4-5 months, so I have some hope she'll be back again. But the last time I emailed her I never heard back...I guess I'll try checking in again since it's been many months.

I’ve been wondering what’s become of her lately. If she were here, she’d definitely be all over stuff like Kritzerland’s Newman set and LLL’s upcoming release of the original recording of Bride of Frankenstein.

Indeed she would!

The Marshall Sexism smile

By the way, I was nice to WagnerAlmighty before I knew she was female. As I have been and will be with any enthusiastic newbie (regardless of gender, sexual preference, age, race, or religion) to our group who expresses a love of Alfred Newman, Miklos Rozsa, Bernard Herrmann, and Jerry Goldsmith, and a desire for guidance to explore their output. That WagnerAlmighty was a composer whose work does in fact channel influence from these masters was the real icing on the cake.

I'm not sure what to think about this.
On the one hand, everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt.
But on the other hand, she herself caused the skepticism by trumpeting her accomplishments before anyone even asked.
And then to be evasive when presented with the most basic of curiosity from some of us here... well, that's on her.

I will say that when it came to some composers, she seemed to know her stuff--nothing weird about that.

But the main point is, don't make something conspicuous by constantly calling attention to it and then act the victim when you don't show evidence.

I also want to point out that on e-mail anyone can be whoever they want to be. It's not hard.
Text and e-mail scams are rampant nowadays. God only knows why they do it.

Last thought: you're a good guy, Yavar. Everyone here knows that.

I didn't see anything particularly weird in her behavior here. The most I could say is that she occasionally she would get ahead of herself (in her huge enthusiasm) and I vaguely recall having to push back about some things she was confusing.

I also want to point out that on e-mail you can be whoever you want to be. It's not hard.

Oh, she didn't just tell me her name but linked me to her website and even sent me synth mockups of excerpts from the symphony she was working on (which are not on her website; believe me her love of Bernard Herrmann came through loud and clear in those excerpts!) But she did ask me to keep her identity private, a request which I will of course respect. Since she was brought up here, however, I simply had to speak up and dispel the notion that she wasn't being honest in how she represented herself.

Last thought: you're a good guy, Yavar. Everyone here knows that.

Thanks, that's nice of you to say. Obviously some folks though (*cough*Lehah*cough*) don't feel that way.

And you know what? That's all she had to do here.
Nothing too revealing, but just some sort of link or something when she was given the opportunity to share in the thread where everyone was sharing the music they make.
And if she has a website, then why does it exist if not to display what she does?
That thread was an honest and friendly invitation--completely on the level with no other agenda other than fellowship.

Well, that's neither here nor there now, I guess.

LeHah is a whole 'nother thing.
He speaks for no one but himself (as is his right, I suppose).

Be honest guys..Women posters are treated with a deference that men are.not.

Insults and putdowns that would be slammed if made by guys( like yours truly) are given pats on the head.

Not complainin', just explainin'.

It's all good!

P.s. do what i do Yav, put Hehaw on your ignore list!

Did that years ago, never regretted it since.

The board has been rather slow since it came back on, but I'm guessing there are still some tweaks and stuff left before it's back to its normal speed.

The lag is very prominent, but not consistently so.
I still don't know what would account for the missing day.
Lacking the normal back-up, prior to the maintenance?

Thanks for the explanation Yavar, re Wagner Almighty.
I admit to being one of the sceptics who thought they were a serial anonymous poster creator, rebirthing themselves every few weeks/months, under a new name.
I echo a lot of the sentiments OctoMan raises above, especially the one about you being a top guy.

But she didn't want to do that, and she shouldn't feel like she had to. She was even shy about sharing it via email with me, and only ultimately felt comfortable enough to because I had been so supportive and encouraging of her. I think we must have been corresponding on and off for several months before she shared any of her music with me. It's a very personal thing for people to do and be vulnerable about. (Jett Hitt -- who is male, in case that's unclear -- is another composer who has personally shared with me mockups of orchestral works he is in process on, but doesn't want to share publicly.)

I somehow missed the thread where all of this went down (because it wasn't a thread about Alfred Newman or Jerry Goldsmith, I suppose hehe) so I'm guessing this is why she disappeared from the forum again...really a shame as she was a wonderful presence here. frown

And if she has a website, then why does it exist if not to display what she does?

It's called keeping one's professional life separate. I know other (well known) composers who visit FSM regularly and even occasionally post, but not under their name. That's their choice and they're entitled to it. Not everyone has to be like Stu Phillips, Russell Garcia, or Chris Tilton all of whom I know have posted here in the past.

That thread was an honest and friendly invitation--completely on the level with no other agenda other than fellowship.

But if that's true then why would anyone take issue with her declining to share if she didn't feel comfortable with it? I just don't get it.

Thanks for the explanation Yavar, re Wagner Almighty.

You're welcome. I was unsure about providing it since she had told me things in confidence, but decided it was better to share some details while still protecting her identity. I hope if she sees this she doesn't mind.

I admit to being one of the skeptics who thought they were a serial anonymous poster creator, rebirthing themselves every few weeks/months, under a new name.

People in general here seem to be much more skeptical of a poster identifying themselves as female (WagnerAlmighty and Kim Tong, whom I've also defended when people assume she's lying) than they are of posters identifying themselves as male. Female posters here are still in a very small minority, so I don't know the cause for such skepticism. Statistics would indicate that it would make more sense to think some posters here are female who don't claim to be!

I echo a lot of the sentiments OctoMan raises above, especially the one about you being a top guy.

Thanks Kev. The feeling is mutual. smile

Like what? I would submit that female posters are treated better here because the few of them that are here tend to behave much better. I've never seen a female poster here behave meanly or immaturely. The closest candidate I guess would be Kim Tong (I forget her married last name now, sorry), who wasn't always nice. But then she *wasn't* treated with deference in response. She was treated pretty badly (and lashed out badly in return, sometimes, as I recall...not that I can blame her when people are insisting that she's someone she's not, and lying about being female). Did she get pats on the head? Not that I remember.
