3000 does not seem very much for a popular score like this but LLL always knows what they are doing.

Well no one always knows what they're doing. I mean, yeah, LLL definitely has a better idea than we the fans do as to how well these kinds of releases sell or can be expected to sell. Still, there will always be miscalculations. Remember when LLL thought Passion of the Christ was going to sell 10,000 copies?

I would agree that Coppola did go overboard at several points during the movie

For sure is the movie over the top... it has the feeling of a dream, as if one nodded off reading the book while having a tad too much absinthe. It is surreal, it is supposed to be... it's more in line with Buñuel, Méliès, Cocteau, not so much with classic horror movies by Universal or Hammer. That's what I like about it so much.

One of the film's many virtues is how brilliantly over the top it is. Certainly some of the excess may have rubbed some viewers the wrong way, like the crazy costume designs and some of the performances. But yes, it does play like a delirious fever dream. I think of it is a masterpiece with certain minor flaws, two of those having the last names of Ryder and Reeves. I'm not bothered by Hopkins' performance, as Yavar is, because he's so entertaining, and just one of the many cases where the film winks at its audience. Despite the reincarnation love angle, it remains the most faithful to the Stoker novel.

And Kilar's score was/is amazing, so original, so powerful, with the right touch of obsession and weirdness.

Was that a "leap of faith"?

I think 3000 is a lot for a CD these days, to be honest.

Cheers

I love this score and movie--and yes, it should have received an Oscar nomination. I remember being just about blown out of my seat with astonishment at how great the opening moments of the score were when I saw it for the first time in a theater.

Agreed. It’s a magnificent score and a very different take on the Dracula story as compared to JW version. I’m passing on Schindler’s List but this one is tops on my radar.

All all of todays “pre-orders” part of the Shipping starts Dec 7th?

If so I need to hang out a couple weeks before I order. Black Friday was a killer. I’d be much more into purchasing immediately if they would be in stock and shipping... the early announcment is cool but I’m going to have to wait.

We complain about this every year, but damn I really wish the titles were available for pre-order IMMEDIATELY with the announcement. Impulse buys are no longer impulsive when you have to wait 4 days to order.

I have crossed oceans of time for this release. I can wait another 4 days.

For me, definitely the best of the batch. A superb score, getting a justified expansion.

There's just as much chance of a sellout with preorders, but if its simply a strong need for instant gratification I can't help you. (Don't you judge me!)

Ordered! Finally, that wonderful Race Against the Sunset cue! And those unused album suites sound gorgeous. To think all this this beautiful music has been languishing unheard in a vault for nearly 30 years. Amazing work LLL smile

I’ve been wanting this for over a decade but had given up hope that it would happen. I listen to the score periodically throughout the year and watch the film almost every Halloween. I had even done a recent search in the forum to see if anyone had been talking about a new release in the works but only found old threads. So imagine how thrilled I was to see this post! The original release was nice but I always felt that the theme for Dracula, (the low cello music) was underrepresented. It is heard during the beginning and during the first minute of the end credits. So I’m hoping we hear more of it in this expanded release. Also, the theme for The Brides is arranged differently in the film and ends with Dracula’s theme so it’s a little different than the album arrangement. As others have mentioned the final chase to the castle was left off the first release and I’m assuming that is “Race Against the Sunset” on this expanded edition. I’m really looking forward to hearing that! I’m also fascinated by all the extended and alternate tracks as well. Anyhow, I purchased it immediately and I will be checking my mailbox nightly for its arrival. People are going to hear me blasting this in my truck with the subwoofer rumbling for a while!! Ha ha.

My feelings exactly. I've been wanting this for a long time. One of my modern day Holy Grails. The 'Race Against the Sunset' cue is one of my most wanted cues. And then there was the nice interpretation of the love theme and green mist music that appeared to be fully developed was on mostly heard on the EPK material that was aired during the films release and I always thought it odd as it was not in the ost album. Finally this and the many other unreleased cues is going to make me very happy. Oh its going to be glorious.
