I didn't really get anything from the trailer. And it seems trailers are in a contest for who can have the worst music these days, even including BRAAAMMMMMs.
The music in the trailer is a real turnoff.
I had hopes for this but I see a lot of stuff that gives me second thoughts. Looks like Solo all over again.
There has been some 30 minutes of footage shown to the press with a LOT of mention of the score:
"The score is awesome. " "The score is killer!" "The samurai-infused space western you've always wanted with an ice cold lead, a bunch of rad creatures, and a killer score " " I'm not usually a music guy, but what an incredible sounding score!" "There’s a reason everyone is mentioning @ludwiggoransson’s score to #TheMandalorian in their footage reactions. It’s truly incredible and I’m already dying to own the soundtrack (assuming it’s made available)"
This isn't necessarily good news. To get a mention in a mainstream critic's review, all a score has to do is pound relentlessly and play over scenes in a well-made movie (see also: THE DARK KNIGHT, M:I:FALLOUT). I'm still hoping Goransson eventually finds his inner Williams for this, or it's not going to feel like Star Wars.
Just watched the first episode (twice) and loved it. The voice they used for IG11 was great and the way they animated him was absolutely perfect. I hope we see more of that character.
I thought the score worked really well and the main theme is really interesting. Almost has a Rocky kinda Bill Conti vibe.
Episode by episode albums, the day of release! What a world! Waiting to listen until after I watch, but I can't wait.
Hey Disney, while you're uploading albums, don't forget about Resistance, the later seasons of Rebels, and maybe more than a single disc from the six seasons of The Clone Wars!
I understand wanting to give the show a western vibe but this score is so utterly disappointing. It's noisy, distracting and doesn't compliment anything. It actually calls negative attention to itself, which is NEVER good.
The end credit theme is fine, I guess, but the rest, especially from Goransson, whose work I love, well... this might very well be some of the worst Star Wars music ever composed.
While it's not as bad s I was worried it would be, it's still chuck full of all the crap I thought it would be chuck full of. There's nothing here that ever needs to be heard again.
