While the original release was not up to par I'm sure it was the best release Perserverance could conjure up at the time (we have all been there). And while I don't agree with the way they marketed it I have to stick up for Robin. He's a good guy and doesn't deserve the ridicule tossed his way. He has released some wonderful soundtracks in the past and I look forward to what they have coming in the future.

He's a a great guy. We love him over here and he's a friend. He's helped us out with so many things. Most recently he's been helping us coordinate some releases. I agree with MV in the view that Robin has done a lot of good things for our community.

It's not my meaning to step on toes, but if you cannot release it properly, than choose a different path by releasing alternate scores, there are a lot of unreleased titles out there to choose from. A lot of people (including me) have a legitimate reason to dislike it and in spite of a lot of good choices Perserverance made, this title still is soundwise a horrible release. It is to my opinion inexcusable just to release a cd based on a poor MP3 (Bootleg?) source nowadays and still charge a full cd price. (it's even mentioned in the booklet; "This album was transferred from really crappy analog files."-are you kidding me!?-) Mind that I paid serious money for this title. I had the boot on cdr too, If I knew this was so bad I would have never bought it in the first place.

A question, hopefully one that can be answered by those who worked on this release:

In the smoke alarm scene, a large portion of the music is not the actual "Smoke Alarm", but another ambient piece of music, before it segues back to Zimmer's cue. Is that first part composed by Hans Zimmer, or was it tracked from another source? If the latter, then what was it?

The scene in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6qco6gCsVE

Happy to get this new version. Always enjoyed this score. HUGE fan of Zimmer's earlier works and even several in the later years too smile

I feel your pain.
I bought this second hand for something like $10.
I was intending to trade/sell it.
Never an important score to me so I am not finicky about the sound.
Like it. Don't love it. Can live without it. Chose to keep it>

Pretty sure it's Zimmer.

Did Hans rip off this 1987 track by Sisters Of Mercy on the Las Vegas track?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-RVJyNpfDk

Wow, striking, some similar notes and textures, good observation! Never heard this track before.

The Sisters Of Mercy - This Corrosion track dates from 1987, Rain Man 1988, so it's highly possible Hans Zimmer got very much inspired by their sound and texture.....nowadays people would get sued for sure by those bands (for instance Robin Thicke copied - Marvin Gaye) But this example sounds even more convincing to me.

3.) The only thing that isn't included are a couple of bonus tracks on the original releases, which seem to be just element tracks taken from the full mixes and given how awful they sounded we decided not to include them.

Wise decision!

Unless it contains the parts MutualRevolver is talking about here wink

Nope. I don't really care what's missing or not. All I care about is what is there, and how it sounds. If an element sounds bad or doesn't add to the listening experience, delete it to Kingdom Come! smile

When I listen to this youtube pre-smoke alarm scene I think it is an excellent musical part (it could also be Zimmer), which deserved to be released too and will be missed forever when it got deleted to Kingdom Come. it's still a darn shame no matter what quality it is in! It could probably be presented as a bonustrack. It's Zimmer too, right?! I am still very curious what happened with this particular part of mostly ambient music.

What does Rain Man stand for anyway? Was his brother a meteorologist?

Rain is associated as being tranquil/calm, Hoffmann is a man who's calm most of the way through the movie till he blows his feelings/anger, I guess.

I think it was a childhood-based mispronunciation of his name, Raymond.

Rain Man refers to Charlie's (the Tom Cruise's character) imaginary friend who, over the course of the movie, figures out was actually Ray (Dustin Hoffman). “Raymond” = “Rain Man.” Their father sent Ray away after their mother's death because he was afraid Ray might hurt Charlie.
