You can lift and rehash yourself - the biggest names in classical music have done that. But it's a different thing if you have "Star Wars" or "JFK" or "Born on the 4th of July" or "A.I." in your arsenal and you lift from those scores and another to lift from, let's say the RC/MV sea of mediocrity... Williams score was truly the only thing (besides Mark Hamill), i liked in Episode 8. I would like to hear another, last Star Wars score of him (and in a way like the thought, that this man managed to do ALL 9 films, wich were announced by Lucas a long long time ago). But i defenitly don`t want to see another (bad) Star Wars movie! John Williams should spend his last years with better and more inspiring films! To be honest, I thought he would have retired from Star Wars at least twice before - first, when the original trilogy ended and second, after the Prequels. Both times I imagined cinematic Star Wars was over. My once beloved Star Wars has finally lost my interest. John Williams has not. He's said many times he'll continue to write music as long as he's able. Maybe I missed it, but I never noticed any posts on this board pointing out the use of the song in the film... Curious too how it made it in there - Williams idea or Johnson's? Was NOT talking about Johnny T..I was talking about that one composer that lifted and rehashed his own scores..over and over and over again..but..cannot today. It’s so great to look (and hear) back on that! I think one of the main reasons he’s still on board is that’s it just so much fun for him to do it. I’m sure he considers Star Wars an incredibly wild and grateful opportunity to compose music for. There’s nothing like it. He created this opus and built upon it layer by layer. But it’s good that he moves on after ep. 9 I think, before things get too formulaic, film- and music-wise. For such a revered, professional craftsman like him it’s a well-deserved and satisfying way to round of this enormous body of work. I think I’ll do the same: I’ll close the book after number 9. It’s enough, I don’t want to become tired of it. (for comparison, I stopped watching the Hobbit trilogy because I didn’t want to spoil my memories of the LOTR trilogy) It was a wild ride, with ups and downs and of course the original three films will always have a place in my heart. These are what it all started. There will be new audiences for the new films in the future and I can only hope that they’ll find something original to expand on. Thanks John, I’m sure you read this.
