What happened to "I don't do superhero movies, they bore me"

IIRC he walked back his pronouncement pretty soon after he made it. He also certainly has the right to change his mind.

Also, I believe his statement that he had retired from superhero films was made right after he finished work on Batman v. Superman, so he was probably burnt out and maybe should have given himself some time to better reflect on things before making such a statement. Those comments reminded me of Daniel Craig saying that he would sooner slash his own wrists rather than play James Bond again, and, well, he is coming back for at least one more film.

He just got stuck doing bad superhero films and didn't want to ruin his legacy doing those films.

I don't know that this film will break his pattern of doing bad superhero movies, although I am optimistic about Wonder Woman 1984.

Maybe he's just playing a numbers game at this point and hoping he finishes his career having scored more good ones than bad ones?

He answers that very question in the interview linked the day before you asked that question.

I remember watching Man of Steel - sticking with it for the music, all in all a pretty good effort by Zimmer who isn't renowned for Superhero's. i quite enjoyed it through the movie, which is a point I need to get MOS soon.

He took this film because it is supposed to be a heavily dramatic superhero film rather than a action-based superhero movie. At least that was how Kinberg sold the film. Whether good or bad, it is clearly not Batman v Superman.

Wonder Woman and Petty Jenkins are probably the only rays of light for DCEU so it not surprising that Zimmer wants to come back to do 1984.

Zimmer is just being really opportunistic. He basically let Rupert Gregson-Williams test the waters with Wonder Woman, and he let Elfman/Junkie XL took the fall for Justice League.

A word of advice to X-Men fans. A new trailer for Dark Phoenix was released today, but i I would avoid it if I were you - there's a significant spoiler in it. I really don't know why film companies do things like that. A really stupid move by Fox.

I guess if your goal is to unite two aging, wheezing tropes of brain-dead Hollywood, you could do a lot worse than the X-Men movie franchise and Hans Zimmer.

If Fox keeps this crap up, they're going to go out of business. Mark my words!

For those thinking that the new Dark Phoenix trailer has a big spoiler in it,consider this...we dont actually see a famous character actually die in it,its only implied and could be a big misdirect.

Except that director Simon Kinberg explicitly confirmed that Mystique dies in order to drive up the stakes and fracture the team (hence Beast being on Magneto's side in the theatrical poster). And, as with X-MEN 3, apparently Mystique won't be the only casualty.

And the link for the above spoiler text...

...
I knew it BS that he retired from scoring anymore superhero movies after Batman V Superman.

Ach! Hans ist ein echter Teufel!
Longing for this new Zimmer superhero soundtrack!

I thought Zimmer dried up with Batman vs Superman, and Amazing...reinforced that in my mind (didn't care much for Dunkirk, either).

That said, I've adored the Dark Phoenix story/comic since I was a little girl, and the moviemakers could have done a LOT worse for composers imo. I won't miss the film.

Some information... from H-Z.com

So, info about the OST. It's gonna be 2 CDs. First CD will be film score. Second will be more suites & ideas (as I told you Hans wrote a lot of music within the past 1.5 year). No release date yet, but you bet they are rushing to have it ready in 10 days...

I believe Lord Charles Brown put it best: "Good grief!".
