A little video of Ken signing at Dark Delicacies in 2009. I flew out from Indiana to go to this signing and it was just grand to meet him and all the other wonderful composers. I sent Ken a copy of this video and he was so moved he found my number and called me up. I was SHOCKED and from that started our six year friendship. Sure miss him
Thanks for posting this Peter, it's very interesting.
Ken was 85 at the time ...... looks 55 or 60! Amazing!
I love the work he did on A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. I think it's my favourite ancient world film music, & its had regular plays from me since 1967. The expanded CD is in the Quartet sale.
I so love the opening theme to Superman II. The way he altered tempo at times is really good. I always loved that score but having the cd only enhanced my appreciation. My favorite moment from III is the scene with the tanker rescue. I remember hearing that in the theatre as a kid & loving how he altered the main theme! He did the same thing for the end titles. The worst thing about the Donner cut of II is they replaced Thorne's score, which perfectly fit every scene, with Williams score that's brilliant but never fits.
I listen to those scores a bit more than Williams score also just because the first Superman score is burned into my head I know it so well. Some of my fondest movie memories as a child are tied to Mr Thorne's work. Thank you!!
