6 Million Dollar Man!

I just bought The Sentinel, and after hearing this outstanding LLL release, I was thinking there needs to be more Gil Mellé on CD.
Maybe this will be a manifestation of my thoughts!

Thinking deep thoughts about Frankenstein: the True Story as well smile

BTW, I'm blown away by The Sentinel...and all of Mellé's work, for that matter.
A true Artist!!

WANTED! More members like Daddy Lime!

By the way, do we have any real information as to the contents of this upcoming release (is it even upcoming, or just in the negotiations stage)? I'd love a 15-CD box set of ALL the music, PARTICULARLY the Mellé pilot score and "The Solid Gold Kidnapping" (which I think was replaced by Nelson cues after the show went into syndication), but I have the feeling that it ain't gonna happen. Two CDs, with extracts from some of the Nelson highlights only? Would that suffice? I just don't want to get my hopes up too much.

I think it might run to 3 or 4 discs, if the material is available.
They've sold lots of 4 disc sets of other classic TV shows, so that would be my guess.
Not 15 though.

A SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN 4 CD set would be perfect.
This would totalize about 5 hours of scoring (4 x 75 minutes).
Enough to get a wide representation of the whole thing.
I hope I see this thing ever happening before I leave this world for good.

If LLL have hinted that this release is 'FRONT & CENTRE' AND there is a nice big Blu-Ray box set dropping in July...well, make of that what you will.

I would love to see music by Gil Mellé included but it would be still a sensational release with the scoring of Oliver Nelson "front and center".

MV in the other thread about Deep Discount you were asking about the Japanese Pressing of Banning, it seems to have been put out by Rambling Records, any idea if that's the same as the LLL release - and was thsi release something you were aware about? Not sure if it falls under the same licence that LLL has?

I think the content on this release may be the same as LLL but I may be wrong, have been before…

"The world's first CD of the "Temptation of the Night" original soundtrack! Music is by legend Quincy Jones. A work depicting the world of a professional golfer starring Robert Wagner. The jazzy score by Quincy Jones was performed in a 55-piece orchestra and demonstrated his talent to the fullest. The theme song "The Eyes of Love" was nominated for an Academy Award that year. The long-awaited release as a completely limited edition of 3000 copies worldwide!"

A 4-CD set like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would be fantastic. But honestly, I will order whatever SMDM package comes along. It's one of the very few things that would bring me out of score-buying retirement and open my wallet again.

I'm a Silver Age guy, I have nearly everything I ever loved on my shelves at this point, but I'd go crazy for a SMDM release. Even a labor-of-love re-recording of Nelson's bionic jazz scores, if somebody would create one, would grab me.

So there's that, a proper release of The Spy Who Loved Me, and some things that are never coming like Man from Atlantis and China Beach. My grails are few.

Can anyone else do Revell's The Saint or do you have no interest in it?

They can but I doubt it would sell well. Personally I dig the score but it requires UME and Paramount to license it out and I don't know if the cost justifies the means, but you never know

MV

Thank you for those details. Unfortunate news, its one of the best scores from the 1990s, but I appreciate the bottom line / cost effectiveness of a release.

Aw-shucks...thanks, guys.

...oh...if the set doesn't include Mellé's pilot, I'll take Frankenstein:True Story as a consolation prize.

big grin

Haha! Sorry for triggering everybody with my question. And thanks for answering swiftly!

It feels good to know that you have at least the will to make it happen.
