What's the big deal with Ghostbusters 2? I was hoping it would come in the next year or so.

Not a famous score but one from the most famous film composer - "Story of a Woman" by John Williams is by all accounts lost (the film itself seems missing, too).

More famous is the score for "Night of the Hunter," which was destroyed in a flood long ago.

Both of these will have to be re-recorded if we want to hear them.

Probably BLACK PATCH, Goldsmith's first score that most of us (including me) know only by reputation. I havn't a clue as to its length or quality other than that it is a Western and a Goldsmith.

Frank Skinner soundtracks will apparently never be released on CD by our specialist labels, whether they're famous scores or not.
Reminds me of "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" when the bandits do in Bogart and, in their rush to grab his shoes and burros, are blind to the real treasure and leave all the gold behind.

Ulzana's Raid, Valdez is Coming, Billy Two Hats, Shootout, Spikes gang, Hunting Party and about 100 other westerns.

The Early Bird and various Ron Goodwin scores, unless someone re-records them or pays for the tapes to be done.

I suspect most outstanding Morricone will eventually find the light of day...

I think multiple people have said that John Williams refuses to allow a release of his score for The Sugarland Express.

well, he won´t live forever.

I'm beginning to think Earth Star Voyager will never be released, even though the elements are probably safely stored in a Disney vault somewhere frown

Less Than Zero. It's tied up in copyright hell. What a shame. This is easily one of the most underrated scores of the 80's.

I realize that you can't reveal all your secrets nor do you want to step on the toes of the people you're working with... but I'm surprised Top Gun and Batman & Robin are on this list. Spider-Man 3, Sugarland Express, Damnation Alley and Blade Runner are pretty well documented on why they're problematic for release...

But The Keep ... that one I heard is because of a fallout between Michael Mann and Tangerine Dream or something? Or is it something else? This is one of my last grails, I'd really love to have it.

There are a lot of good scores by lesser-known guys like Stothart,Deutsch,Roehmheld, etc.,
and scores from lesser-known films that will probably never be released. Also,I'll bet that a lot of the old Baker/Bruns/Smith etc.Disney scores won't be done either(I'd love to see Intrada do "Old Yeller" and "Pollyanna"!).

BATMAN AND ROBIN

I do wonder if Goldenthal could rerecord it and release it on his own label, Zarathustra Records, using his original, unused 50-minute program, for example. I'm not sure how the troublesome rights issues would relate to that.

I think the size of the orchestra (and choir) needed would be very expensive. Goldenthal was not known for small orchestra budgets on his "bigger" movies; Shirley Walker even called his methods "wasteful" in an interview.

That's true, but he's quite resourceful. For example, he recently used leftover time with an orchestra and opera singers for a Wagner recording (can't remember which) to record his own opera GRENDEL -- to be released in the near future. Maybe he could do something similar for this?
