The Labors of Schiffy - that's the title of my next novel.

I've little to contribute at the moment, except to say that I've ordered it, and am really looking forward to getting this album - Kritzerland and Previn are always a dynamite combination. I also wanted to let Schiffy know that his recent post may, in fact, be the greatest one-liner anyone has posted on one of these message boards -- or my favorite, at least.

The sunny and glorious first half of "Katie's Story" put me on another planet for a second there....Previn was such an amazing talent. Thanks for another winner Bruce!

As soon as I reload the bank account this will be ordered. I don't think I have seen this film. Can't wait to hear the whole cd.

The film is typical old-fashioned 1961 comedy - glossy and fun.

Comedy scores have been daunting for me but this ALL ABOUT EVE classical style has always been my speed.

Apparently the 2005 Paramount DVD of this film is quite rare. Amazon wants $32 for a new copy.

The sound samples are DAMNED pretty. Those cocktail music cues make me hear the ice in the glasses clinking already!

This is at the front of my want list now.

It's the kind of music that in real life would be fun to fall in love to.

I have fond memories of this score. I had the main title recorded on an old reel to reel tape from a TV broadcast many years ago. Looking forward to receiving the whole score.

I always thought that the main title theme sounded a lot like Prokofiev. Given that Previn was a bit of an expert and conducted and recorded many of Prokofiev's works, I'm sure it was an intentional loving homage.

The melody is not the same, of course, but rythmically and stylistically it bears similarities to parts of Prokofiev's 5th Symphony (among other things)....to my ears at least.

Anybody else hear it?

I hear it, too. That main title screams Prokofiev.

The alternate main title is also wonderful - but instead of that propulsive theme, it's a gorgeous rendition of the love theme.

You can still get it on Netflix, however.

We got a little behind on this one - printer stuff - but we should have them next week, still a couple of weeks earlier than the ship date, so that's good. Whew!

Now, I'm a little shocked that no one has guessed our next title!

More stuff from the early 1960s - right?

is the composer from the United States?

Is the composer still alive?

Has the score won or been nominated for a Oscar?
