This is a comments thread about FSM CD: Ben-Hur

Perhaps it's an error (The Rozsa Treasury was limited to 2000)? It doesn't say it on the SAE page, as Allardyce says...

Some clarification perhaps?

Edit: I didn't see the back cover. In that case, I too am going to be dependent on there still being copies left in early March. frown

Oh come on. I swear all the companies time their releases at times when I absolutely cannot buy them.

This is without question my favorite "Golden Age" score and a wonderful surprise. Guess I need to order early considering its limited nature.

This is the fastest I've ever ordered any score. An absolute bargain at $60.
The painting above on the back cover is a gem. I don't think I've ever seen it before.

So I'm not overly familiar with the history of Ben Hur rerecordings. When they mention "the rare (and controversial) Lion label disc," what made that album controversial?

edited to add - preordered smile

Ordered, well pre-ordered, what a fabulous looking and sounding set.

After spending the last hour listening to all the soundbites, I'm totally blown away.

The Fertility dance now has the drum overlay, that was missing from the Rhino and the Fanfare for Messala's arrival in Jerusalem is there as well.

It doesn't get better than this.

well, here goes my first big order of the year. had to load up on varese sale items as well. this looks like quite a lavish set, glad i don't have any of the earlier issues to compete with it and make me feel even guiltier about the hefty order!

ORDERED This is a great release and everyone involved should be congratulated and thanks for making it a preorder. This is a great score and one of the rare complete scores without exact repetition or a dull moment.

Um, what the hell happened to a couple of weeks? I even mentioned in another thread that I would buy two by putting money away on Friday. And now it gets released just a day later? So much for planning our money. Now, if this sells out by tomorrow, I'm going to be pissed.

I feel you brother. However, I'm a little short on money this month; the Rozsa Treasury just got delivered to my desk no less than five minutes ago and that cost pretty much all of my "entertainment budget" for the month. If there are still copies around by March 9, I'll pick one up but this one is pretty much "out of my hands", so to speak - and quite literally!

Have you guys all considered payment by money order?

When I ordered the Benny Box I didn't have the cash on hand either. I chose to pay by mailing in a money order, and didn't happen to mail it in until after they'd started shipping the box.

It's sort of like a "layaway" option if you think about it.

How FSM info links to SAE is a little tricky sometimes. I've edited a field so it displays the "Limited to 2000" properly on SAE.

Ordered!!!! And as part of my gratitude to FSM, I also ordered "Glass Slipper", "Wonderful World Of The Brothers Grimm" and the Mandel multi-CD set. If FSM is going to provide me wiht my Holy Grail of MGM score releases, the least I can do is get more of the titles I've passed on before for future study.

While I was reading about the 2000 for Ben-Hur, CNN was playing in the background... and they were talking about the SEVENTEEN MILLION sales (in the USA alone!) of The Bodyguard soundtrack.

Um, what the hell happened to a couple of weeks?

Probably with the cat out of the bag it was easier to list it as a pre-order than to deal with a couple weeks of inquiries.

Damn it - the sound quality is really good.

Can`t pre-order right now... bad $timing$ for me too. Hopefully this sticks around for a week or so.

Ben Hur is obviously a religious epic, but the music doesn`t at all hit you over the head with that... its a thorough classic, definitely in the same family as Conan. It *can* rip your heart out.

This says that "This pressing is limited to 2,000 copies" [emphasis mine]:

(from http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/cds/detail.cfm/CDID/484/Ben-Hur/)

Should it really sell out fast, I would read this as not excluding further pressings.

They've always worded it that way, I believe. Though that never stopped them from pressing more in the past!

I'm interested by the design choice of a purple strip on the graphics. It doesn't seem to pick up on any colors in the poster artwork and would seem a bit of an odd choice, but the overall effect is splendid.
