Does most of the album sound like the main theme? There are only 3 samples. I'm intrigued, but this is from M's post-hip period, so I'm on the fence. I will need to hear the whole album to decide.

No it doesn't. There is some quite difficult atonal music on this one that is not easy to listen to.

For me, Regan's theme is worth the price of this CD. It's one of Morricone's best themes and I can play it endlessly.

Peter is right though. I'm not so into the wailing voices and the whip cracking stuff.

Cheers

First off, I want to say that I am really happy to get such unanimously positive response to this release.

To clarify a couple of things: Yes, Warner, indeed, did give us remastered tracks that they put through a lot of work at their studio. In addition to that, my regular engineer Chas Ferry, who did a terrific job on our recent Lord of Illusions album, put his magic touch on the masters.

The reason why this isn't an expanded release is simply this: There isn't any more music that is available to put on the album. I think the bootleg had a couple of more tracks on it, but our license didn't allow us to put these on.

I am glad that people appreciate the fact that we used the original LP artwork for this release. Personally, I really disliked the Warner France cover.

Hope this helps.

"Magic And Ecstasy" is one of Morricone's coolest themes ever, and "Regan's Theme" is pretty enough, but much of the album isn't very enjoyable, IMO.

I'll be getting this, for sure.

But I can't help thinking 3000 copies is too many, particularly in light of developments from the other labels.

If this is a straight re-issue, is it going to be available through other outlets (e.g. Amazon)?

I really do think these labels would sell more if they didn't just limit themselves to only being able to distribute through the speciality outlets. I realise mostly this is part of the licence agreement, but it's not like the licencee has an identical product currently in print that they are selling through those channels. So why do the licences to our specialist labels have to be so restrictive?

I know there are many things competing for your money just now, but if you don't know the album and are wary about buying it I hope I can allay some fears.

Yes, there are two stand-out tracks on this CD - "Regan's Theme" and "Magic and Ecstasy". The former is one of his "perfect" melodies, and the latter is a wild danse macabre. Because of these tracks, another which deserves a mention is often overlooked: "Interrupted Melody". This is a quiet and beautiful track, full of yearning, with a hesitant piano underpinning Morriconian strings and a female vocalist wordlessly joining in. You could imagine this track slipping in to Once Upon a Time In America without being over-shadowed.

The other tracks on this disc are indeed less easy to listen to, but they have a weird visceral appeal and hold you transfixed while the animalistic rites swirl around, encouraging surrender to the dark forces. I've known this music since the LP was first issued and it's now part of me - but I don't get any urges to behead chickens or anything like that. It might be odd and un-nerving at first, but it's only music.

It's not a disc that you'd play at a dinner party - unless you're having the Mitchells over, in which case it would be perfect.

I'm perplexed by the comments about some of this music being "difficult."

I can only wonder how familiar some people are with the range of M's output. "Difficult" seals the deal for me. I could care less about stuff like "Days of Heaven."

I already own the Warner France release and actually don't mind the cover art (love the foldout booklet). I personally think that CD sounds pretty good. Great horror score, another one to add to the list of great releases this month!

You have boring dinner guests. Morricone's giallo scores are often spun at my place while drinking wine with friends.

Thanks to Robin for clearing up some of the uncertaintly about this being more than just a straight reissue. Actually, even if it hadn't been given a full blown remastering, and merely a new, even slightly superior sounding mastering job, it would be worth it.
Now I just hope this title doesn't sell out before some other mid-December pre-orders show up on SAE. Shipping to Japan one cd at a time gets costly.

Are you kidding me? No music to put on the album? What the hell is that supposed to mean? That makes as much sense to me as someone painting a Van Gogh in black and white!!!!! Is it a matter of being able to LOCATE the tapes of the film score? I am really confused by this statement. For those of us out there who are just too LOW for you to release a GOOD version of the cd, you'll have to elaborate.
Because I gotta tell you, this release is a DISAPPOINTMENT in my book. I have the original WB LP AND the 2002 WB France release. I love this score a great deal but let's have the COMPLETE FILM SCORE!
If you could do Deadly Friend as you did, then why the heck can't you do something for E2?

I am completely mystified by your anger. What in the world did Mr. Esterhammer say that you took to mean he considers his customers beneath him, and unworthy of what you would consider "GOOD"?

He stated very clearly that his license did not allow him to include other music, and that additional music was not available. If you have this music already, a good solution to this particular problem would be not to buy this new one, which essentially duplicates what you already own. A lot of people do not already own this. Some of them will buy this one. Pretty simple.

If you could do Deadly Friend as you did, then why the heck can't you do something for E2?

What does one have to do with the other?

Remember, Deadly Friend was a bootleg. It was unlicensed release. Perhaps Warner Bros Pictures did not care for such a release and thusly didn't authorize an expanded version of this score.

Or, perhaps the tapes don't exist. It happens.

Standing corrected. I just desperately wanted a complete E2: The Heretic release. I apologize for getting over-angered previously.

Re: Deadly Friend, I have the Perseverance Records orchestral score, which I was very happy to finally have. I have the original synthesized Varese Recordings but it was great to finally have the film versions. So I figured that if the original score could be released as opposed to the original LP of that film, then why not E2.

Again I apologize for that emotional outburst.

Has anybody received his/her shipping confirmation?
My order is almost two months old and no shipping has taken place yet.

Life is hard for collectors.
