MV ...any hint on a expanded or complete release of this score?

Isn't this score also available in complete form on an isolated track of the dvd-release?

Yep, it is, region 2 & 4 at least. Not the first I'd ask for a reissue of though. The OST is still obtainable and there are no alternates or anything, just ~15 mins of minor material missing.

Very disappointing to hear about the Varese thing. The 90s stuff they released are my 'zone' and my number one grail is in there (complete Dante's Peak). Unfortunately their club releases rarely go anywhere near this period.

(although of course we shouldn't need expansions of these anyway. Not blaming Varese, but 30 mins is stupefyingly pathetic)

Surely although perpetual, Varese could sell the rights if they wanted to? You'd think they'd cooperate for the greater good.

It is a shame about Varese as they don't really seem interested in revisiting many of their previous scores. They must know that there is a demand for a lot of them to be re-released as a better package but they just don't seem interested.

Would they really be interested in licensing / selling the rights to a different label ? Doubtful.

If only!

I know nothing of these matters but it'd be pretty freakin' cool if Varese was able to work out some kind of deal with, say, LLL to release OOP VS titles under some kind of special banner, similar to the Warner scores being re-released by LLL as Expanded Archival Collection titles.

I'd hope they would at least entertain the idea. They have a huge back catalog that they don't seem interested in doing anything with (two 90s releases that I know of in their club series).

I can understand why - restoring completely unavailable scores takes priority, so why not allow a label like LLL who are interested in contemporary expansions to help them out.

I hope Varese is reading this thread. Just a suggestion folks; maybe list a poll of (just an example) favorite 90's Varese scores that we would like to see expanded?

Say a list of top 10 or 15 sdtks, and contact Varese w/the list?

Sorry I'm just thinking outloud again.

embarrassment

I sent them a politely-worded Facebook message. I was told it would be forwarded to their soundtrack department.

I didn't know they had any other departments. smile

So I'm just bumping this thread for 2 reasons.

1. I just wanted to point out that MV is clearly a witch based on his order at the beginning of this thread ordering his pretties to fly onwards to Varese, because many of those on that list happened. So thanks again MV! big grin

2. Alan Silvestri today posted on Instagram very recently that he was listening to the Contact score today.

Does this mean anything?

Mr. Neary, what do you want?

I just want to know that it's really happening.

That he likes his own score (enough to have referenced it multiple times in the years since, including the end of Avengers: Endgame)?

I know there's more score in the movie, but I remember some tracking and not much else worthwhile.

actually there are at least 300 pages of music in the CONTACT score razz

On the other hand

Captain America had at least 500 pages of music

Kingdom of the Crystal skull had at least 899 pages of music

Whatever the hell that matters?

It clearly shows those composers are not to be messed with

I like to see you trying writing at least 200 pages of music just for one film big grin

Can’t we all just get along?

And admit that it would be incredibly awesome to have a complete version of the soundtrack to the 1997 hit film CONTACT as well as the 1997 hit film AIR FORCE ONE?!?!
