Wonderfull. This was on the top of my expanded 007 wish list!

Great to listen to some of the unused music on the samples, "highly enhanced audio quality" will be wonderfull to have on Moonraker, great to see also that the main source tracks are from Barry and included on this one (pre-title "circus music" is there for lovers of circus music - and this one is from Barry, the cable car carnival/bossa music also!).

Loved that the new covers does not have the border that we had on Octopussy and LALD and seem that LLL is having more freedom to depart a bit from the album covers but remaining faithfull to the original posters.

Also interesting that these came from MGM provided "hi-res digital transfers". It seems to confirm that MGM transferred and preserved the scores digitally, which could be good for the yet unreleased scores (that there may be no risk of tape degradation in case they still take some time to be released).

The sound samples are revelatory. That EMI CD must have been mastered in a bread oven.

I was thinking this was a rather bland year for soundtrack releases....until now.

He was Mr Bond. I love that cue.

The freefall sequence sounds different from what was in the film? Sounds like they cut up what Barry originally scored.

IIRC, Barry had to be persuaded to score that sequence with the Bond theme. big grin

This is fantastic news. I remember a, was it Kickstarter, campaign for a re-recording that couldn‘t be made because of legal issues. But now we have the real thing.

I suspect that is why the campaign never got off the ground.

No, it got off the ground, and there was an enthusiastic influx of fans for it, but an unnamed party (presumably Eon) got solictors to send warning letters to stop the project.

This is what James Fitzpatrick relayed at the time.

Cheers

Yes, if I remember correctly it was cancelled after it had already reached the target.
Even Roger Moore helped push the campaingn in his social media at the time.

The problem with rerecordings, if reconstructed by ear (as I think would be the case of Moonraker), is that they would miss the sections unused/faded out in the movie and alternates. That’s why it is so great to have a release from the complete tapes.

Yes, and it was startling for James.

Sorry, my reply was badly worded. I meant it was stopped because EON knew the master tapes did exist and a re-recording would damage any future release of those. It took a while but its here now...well soon.

Not sure they didn‘t have access to the sheet music.

Yes indeed. There's only about 10 minutes of AUDIBLE unreleased music in the film, so that's all that could have been reconstructed by ear, but just look at how much more new music there is on this release than that.

There's also a danger of missing details. When Network released their Blu-Ray of Raise The Titanic with a partial isolated score, we could hear details in some of the music cues that were not obvious in the fully mixed film soundtrack, and therefore not transposed to the rerecording.

I want to say, I'm not knocking rerecordings from by-ear transcriptions, I'm just acknowledging that those are the two real-world limitations of such projects, and it doesn't detract from my gratitude towards them.

Cheers
