Ooof, $40 shipping to the US. That's a bit of a tough sell.

Yet that's what people outside the US pay for shipping nearly all the time, since so many products are sourced from the US or outside their country. So for them, this is expensive – but hardly qualifies as sticker shock!

Yeah, I remember when I was ordering from Omni scores from the US to the EU, shipping for a single score was more like 60 to 80$, so 40$ seems cheap. :-)
(Omni has since a distributor in Germany, which is great.)

Shipping internationally has become really, really expensive, so that you think twice before ordering something.

Really? Who? I could only find their Batman release being available via Schott, but no other release it seems.

Makes sense , I think. Though when you see them do a symphony it's two full pages , with some empty bits. So is this item saving space as well?

This format is the standard for published full scores (look at Dover or Boosey & Hawks editions). A conductor’s score will have all staves but that’s reserved for leading an orchestra from the podium. Study scores have always used the format as seen in the photos from
Chris.

It's a lot more efficient too for studying. The first time I saw it I was thrown off a bit, but when you can fit more measures onto a page if entire instrument groups are missing, it helps, especially because it reduces the number of page turns you have to make if you're looking at the score while listening live.

There is no point in a printed study score that is meant to be read rather than performed to print rows and rows of blank staff, so instruments that do not play anything are usually omitted. That's why published scores sometimes have a full page, sometimes a half page for the same amount of bars.
I already thought I had enough printed film scores, especially with STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE, but I consider getting this one.

Just wait until later this year when Chris releases Alien in full score!

ALIEN is going to be amazing, perhaps far more so than ALIENS. Though ALIENS has been wonderful to study - although it has been the most challenging to keep up with by far. The lack of an easily discernible pulse in cues and extreme fluidity in the tempos makes it a challenge to listen to. But overall it was a gem to study for all of the weird techniques. ALIEN is going to be even more of that!

I have Chris' Aliens and Iron Giant. I know ALIEN will be amazing, just as much as CONAN will be. It's just fantastic that we live in an era where these scores are accessible. I remember wishing I had access to them when I was a uni student back in the late 80s. The best I could get was On the Track which had some score excerpts but that was it.

Yes, I spent big bucks on books like Karlin's "ON THE TRACK" back in the day just to learn something about composer's thoughts and ideas as well as getting a peak at score excerpts. That was my first book on the subject of film music I bought.

I actually meant Schott, have not tried to order anything from them. I ordered a dozen or so STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE copies and some other stuff directly from Omni last year, before they had a German distributor.

Back to Conan- I love that Chris got the rights to use the original artwork from the movie. Epic!

This and the "Independence Day" cover look absolutely fantastic. I mean, I'm all about the score itself and don't worry about covers much, but these really look great.

I had never warmed up to the "Aliens" score, but I bought the score from Chris, both to just support what he's doing (hoping he'd say, "Hey, 'Aliens' is selling well, I think I"ll do 'Alien'" and it worked! ) and hoping that listening to the music while following the score would increase my enjoyment of it. Quite the opposite has happened though. The more I listen to "Aliens" the less I like it. That's not to say it's bad, it just isn't to my taste.

I'm really excited about "Conan" and "Alien" as I've always loved the music for those films. Also looking forward to Neumation's "Twilight Zone - The Movie."

Yes, I ordered them directly from Omni, and since shipping for a single copy was very expensive, I ordered a whole bunch of them. It was a group order for various people, I only kept one for myself.

Ok, thanks. Found a Facebook post saying they are testing the market with Batman and see how that works out.

Anyway, sorry Chris, for distracting from the great release of Conan. Looks terrific.

Intersting, as ALIENS is among my all time favorite James Horner scores, perhaps even my number one favorite.

Yes, good heavens... I mean, I'm just a casual score reader, my score reading skills are rudimentary, but it's still fun to look at some instrumentation and scores you normally could not. I was always very interested in the notation of the electronics in some of Goldsmith's scores, which is why I got TOTAL RECALL, which is a "textbook" on electronic and orchestral writing. TWILIGHT ZONE, ALIEN, CONAN... good lord, I really don't need all these scores, but they seem to publish EXACTLY those particular scores I will actually buy.

All of the artwork for your books has been great. Wonderful job putting them all together!

Is this a reconstruction or a transcription from the original manuscripts?

Alex

I am curious about this as well!

Also, indeed great artwork!

Always from manuscript/original files (for later, non-hand written scores).
