For summer reading, I usually look forward to a nice spy thriller, in recent years mostly Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon series every July.
Now I have my sights set on this "titanic?" (how about "monumental") 2-volume set. Jeff Bond is most certainly the authority to tackle the subject. Congratulations in advance, Jeff.
My eyes are peeled. We're all anxiously awaiting the publication date.
Very exciting news !!! Been wishing for official books on film composerrs and Jerry Goldsmith is a good one to start with. Also hope their is one on John Williams someday. Looking forward to more information on the book as more details and pre orders are announced soon. I'm sure Jeff Bond will do a great job writing this book his books and liner notes on CD Soundtracks I've always enjoyed.
You're in luck, as there is Audissino's excellent book The Film Music of John Williams, now in it's 2nd edition, plus great bios and/or reference books on Bernard Herrmann, Max Steiner, Alex North, Elmer Bernstein, Dmitri Tiomkin, Elmer Bernstein and others.

There is an excellent bio on Max Steiner by Steven C. Smith and "Henry Mancini.. Reinventing Film Music" by John Caps to add to this list.
Obviously this book won't be like the warts and all bio by Goldsmith's daughter that was strangled at birth. But I hope it's not a All Hail Jerry deification either. We've already got FSM for that.
The book won't be a tell-all; where Goldsmith went on the record discussing his private life and where it impacted his scores you'll see a dash of that here and there but it's primarily about his projects. There will be music samples although fair use limits the scope of that to an extent. My goal was to touch on every major project that Goldsmith did which means all the theatrical films, every TV-movie and as many TV episodes as could be dug up and as much of his radio work as I could listen to. There are entire chapters devoted to some scores while others might get just a few paragraphs, and a lot of that is dependent on the amount of interview material available; there's a wealth of archival interview material as well as new interviews.
Excellent. There should be a lot to write about, he could go from the wacky In Like Flint in 1967 to the atonal Planet Of The Apes the following year, & who else could write such elegant title music for a sci-fi horror film, Alien. Yes, a lot of great stuff to write about.
