The original by Toto is so inspirational and perfectly complements the main score too:
All of the Dune music is so good I want to put together a compilation of all the new music and the old music too because it is all inspirational! Toto and Hans Zimmer should do a mashup live of the music!
I've never heard of CARAVANS but I'm listening to the "theme" and it's hilariously discoey, I love it. I talked in another thread about what makes a score "dated", and while the beat is dated the concept here is rad. I'm digging it!
I've always dug the arrangement. HA! Imagine actually hearing ABBA singing on top of it (there's a good imitation on "The Aftermath".)
Elsewhere, the usual romantic desert gestures reside comfortably alongside some very convincing "local" colour, and each are superbly orchestrated and performed.
Apparently Bess Armstrong clearly realised her next project would be Jaws 3-D and wants a word with her agent. Also, Tom Selleck, Brian Blessed and Wilford Brimley in the same movie is a fearsome amount of moustache!
