Despite the anniversary year and the Mondo LP, for which I rebuilt the original album, if an expanded Hook is coming out on CD this year, it's news to me.

Can you confirm if new sources have been found since the LLL release that do offer better quality?

Any Label: "Our label proudly announces Mike Matessino's production of..."

Me: "Take my money."

Label: "You didn't let us finish."

Me: "Don't care. Here's my card #."

Fixed it for you. wink

I will only say that the tape transfers from 2011 were used to create the new LP master.

That's OK. We know how busy you must be getting the Complete Star Wars saga boxset ready wink

Love the Lalaland CD.
Such a rich and colorful score to one of the worst movies in moviehistory.I was almost offended.Peter Pan is a holy grail...and turning him into a hairy grown up Robin Williams with a big nose and a short upper lip was just offensive to mewink
Horrible story and acting...and t those fu....lost boys...Everything sucked except the beautiful score.

That has to be the reason, I can't take another disappointment... Mike I hope you (and JW and Disney) know that I and many others would give both arms for such a SW set (physical or digital).

Star Wars is not the reason, nor is there any news on that. But of course we all know it needs to happen. I'm busy with a release that I hope others will be as excited about as I am. Plus there's Star Trek TMP Director's Edition in the works.

Let's hope that "we all" includes the ones in charge!

Indiana Jones!!! LOL I can dream, cant I? Cause if it was Indiana, I'm sure you wouldn't need to "Hope".

If you're excited, I'm excited. And I know it's not Fluppy Dogs. - I imagine an Oliver Stone JW Soundtrack Collection akin to the Disaster box, or maybe something that none of us are expecting. big grin

I believe one of the labels said a couple years ago that an actual box set of the Oliver Stone JW scores would never happen due to the different studios involved. But individual releases would be possible.

I believe one of the labels said a couple years ago that an actual box set of the Oliver Stone JW scores would never happen due to the different studios involved. But individual releases would be possible.

It was Mike Matessino who said that. He said:

Re a Oliver Stone/John Williams CD Box Set...
All it usually takes is a polite phone call from John Williams (or one of HIS People) to the relevant studios and hey presto, they all fall in line!
Look at the Disaster Box Set and the way Pete n Tillie jumped aboard the Stanley & Iris deluxe edition Juzzzlikearrrrr!
Who's gonna wanna upset God?
If Williams asked for a Starship, Kirk would give it to him!

wink

I don't see this ever happening as a collection no matter who makes a call, polite or otherwise.

JFK = WB / Warner Music
Born on the Fourth of July = Uni / UME
Nixon = Disney

It was a simple matter for Varese to license Pete 'n' Tillie for one compilation to add to a title they control. The Disaster collection is technically three separate releases and got done only because of that fact and because WB deferred entirely to Fox on The Towering Inferno.

I wasn't a fan of the OST but love the expanded CD edition. I'm quite happy with that presentation.

Mondo's last drop of 2021 is a doozy: A 30th anniversary vinyl for 'Hook'
A beautiful collector's item for the best Peter Pan movie.
By Adam Rosenberg on December 13, 2021

If you're looking for some musical holiday cheer, Mondo and John Williams have got you covered.

The Austin-based boutique's latest highly collectible geeky treasure is its last of the year, and it's a killer: The legendary Star Wars composer's soundtrack to Hook, re-issued in a sweet 2LP vinyl record set. It's a 30th-anniversary release that will receive a limited edition run of 1,991 copies, in a nod to the year the movie first hit theaters.

For anyone who's never known this cult classic's joys and wonders, Hook is a many-years-later sequel of sorts to Peter Pan. (Technically it's a sequel to J.M. Barrie's 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, but potato / po-tah-to). Robin Williams stars as Peter Banning, a dad and successful lawyer who also happens to have a magical history that he doesn't totally remember. But when Peter's two children suddenly disappear, he's whisked away to Neverland to face an old foe, Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman).

It's a special movie that features a bonkers cast. Beyond Williams and Hoffman, there are Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins, Maggie Smith, Dante Basco, and even Phil Collins! Though reviews of Hook have been mixed, the score composed by Williams is a winner.

Mondo's vinyl re-issue arrives in a gatefold sleeve featuring new art from Devin Elle Kurtz, a young digital artist with a talent for creating fantastical, eye-catching scenes. The front-and-back art highlights memorable moments from the movie aboard Captain Hook's ship, and the piece spread across the inside of the gatefold (pictured above) visits the Lost Boys' treetop home in Neverland.

The vinyl reissue also features liner notes by John Takis, a writer and film score enthusiast who has written on and discussed Hook's lush score before.

Pre-orders for the limited edition $35 release will open up on Dec. 15 on Mondo's website.

The cover art is quite a let down... And I wish they would stop this Splatter disc trend.

I'm happy with my LLL CD

DEC 13, 2021
Hook - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP (On-Sale Info)

Our final week of new releases for 2021, and our 10th anniversary, comes to a proper close. We wanted to thank everyone who has supported us over the year, and who has ever bought records from us this past decade.

This week, we are over the moon, second star to the left, and straight on 'til morning excited to present a 30th anniversary re-issue of John Williams' score to the beloved Steven Spielberg film HOOK. Featuring beautiful artwork by Devin Elle Kurtz, liner notes by John Takis, and pressed on color vinyl - this limited edition pressing comes just on the heels of Spielberg's latest theatrical release WEST SIDE STORY (which we highly recommend ... in theaters now).

As always, all new releases are available for pre-order on Wednesdays at 12PM CT at MondoRecordShop.com.
NEW RELEASE:

Mondo is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's HOOK, with a re-issue of John Williams' beautiful and brilliant original score on vinyl.

A maestro of some of the most iconic and memorable film themes in the history of the medium, John Williams' take on the legendary pirate and his greatest foe is worthy of his storied career - as if the man who made us believe Superman could fly couldn't do the same for Peter Pan. But this score is truly singular - from Swashbuckling and epic symphonic motifs of Never Never Land, to the adult contemporary jazz of the real world, to twinkling lullabies - the soundtrack to Hook is a fantastical feast for the senses.

This 30th anniversary vinyl reissue was produced and edited by Mike Matessino. It features all new, original artwork by Devin Elle Kurtz, liner notes by John Takis, and is pressed on 2x 180 gram Colored vinyl (also available on 2x 180 Gram black vinyl).

HOOK - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack 2XLP. Music by John Williams. Art by Devin Elle Kurtz. Pressed on 180 Gram Hook vs. Pan Vinyl. Also available on 180 Gram Black vinyl. $35.
