Wasn’t the recent re-release of this score supposed to be an improvement in the sound? So this is an improvement on that release?

I've already got the remaster and the LLL release. If you don't own it and enjoy Goldsmith's western output it's definitely worth your money.

Just a heads up to everyone that this will be another 45-days only release like Ivanhoe and Inchon. Roger wrote this when I asked him about it:

That's correct. Like the others, this is really designed to make a hi res version available. The CD is just because it's a new master and we figured a few people would like that. Sort of a commemorative for the digital release.

Very cool. Also, another high-res audio release – which for some (especially international customers) is an added bonus!

And as an aside: such selfishness on display in this thread... which is disgusting.

This is a great recording and I listen to it more often than the OST. I greatly appreciate Intrada for issuing lossless downloads of their releases.

I'll be picking up a copy of this. Always happy to support Intrada's re-releases, even if I already have them. Remasters are welcome!

I noticed it says May 6th, which is a Thursday. Is that a first for them? Can't think of a time where they released a soundtrack on a Thursday...

The original film tracks for Rio Conchos have only been released three times

1 in 1999 by FSM (OOP)
2 in 2014 by Kritzerland (OOP)
3 in 2018 by La-La Land (still in print - https://lalalandrecords.com/100-rifles-rio-conchos-limited-edition-2-cd-set/ )

The 1989 re-recording Jerry did with the LSO is owned by Intrada, and also released 3 times

1 in 1989 (OOP)
2 in 2013 {with "End Cast" and 2 previously unreleased alternate takes added as bonus tracks} (OOP)
3 this new release

I'm glad it will be back in print for all to enjoy, and it's great it will be available both on CD AND as a digital stream/sale - including high res!

Win/win all around.

Thanks for this, it has always been really confusing. To clarify:

THE BEST ORIGINAL RELEASE of both Rio Conchos and 100 Rifles is the 2018 LLL combo release?

THE BEST RE-RECORDING RELEASE of Rio Conchos is this upcoming 2021 Intrada of Rio Conchos?

And 100 Rifles doesn't have a re-recording?

If that's the case I'm totally in for this Intrada release. The music is great, I have the original LLL release, and a re-recording REALLY would do justice to the music by improving quality on what is OUTSTANDING music.

One of Goldsmith’s best western scores, and more importantly, hands down THE best revisit/re-recording he ever did of his work (in this case two works: Rio Conchos, and my favorite thing he ever wrote: The Artist Who Did Not Want to Paint). If you don’t have the album, it’s a must buy.

Yavar

Agreed, it's a superb album, both scores are excellent and excellently recorded.
I got the last incarnation and that sounds terrific already. But those who don't have this should not hesitate.

Anyone know what the story is on this? Was Jerry not happy with the soundtrack recording? I love the soundtrack version paired with 100 RIFLES. What are your thoughts on how this is either better or unique? (We already have enough naysayers, folks.)

Awesome! Thanks!

This will be my next purchase (and we'll see what Varese and LLL have on Fri and Sat).

Happy this will be available again as an HR download.

I went back and forth over whether to get it when it was in the Danger Zone a year or two back.
I have the LLL duo set with 100 Rifles and TBH neither score has ever knocked my socks off.

A re-recording might be just the ticket I needed to finally engage with it.

Day ONE for me! I absolutely LOVE these scores (I figure The Artist Who Didn’t Want to Paint is included). I’m all for hi-res downloads and I think this is the future. This is a great release and we shouldn’t behave like snobs! This is a great new trend and I welcome it and thank Intrada for doing it!

I have always hated the fact that people would settle for MP3s as the standard for downloads. Shipping costs have been increasing year after year and I’ll be glad to bypass shipping costs and customs and still get better-than-cd-quality sound.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

This is my favorite Goldsmith western and the rerecording is gorgeous. Not sure if the new remaster is substantially different or improved this time around (I have the previous editions) but this digital high resolution transfer ought to sound great.

Will get the hi-res edition. Great rerecording.
I like that they're releasing their rerecordings in hi-res, waiting for Julius Caesar and Jason And The Argonauts.

As I understand it, the LLL release of Rio Conchos is the same as the Kritzerland release of three or four years earlier, with the exact same sound quality.

Well, the best available version. Let's not make it too confusing.

I will say that I've never seen either movie and was not familiar with the music, but after I listened to suites online I was immediately sold and bought the LLL release because they both have incredible main themes.

I also will say that I was very confused about the versions and ALSO skipped the re-recording from Intrada but that once I understood it was a re-recording and listened to it, I was blown away by how much the great themes were brought to life with a new recording.

So I'll definitely buy this one for that reason and if you found the original recording to be a bit dampened by the aged recording quality, I think you'll enjoy the revitalized sparkle of the re-recording smile
