It's just a shame that there are no UK retailers of soundtracks. France has Music Box Records (which as we know, now has a minimum order of £135 for UK customers). Germany has Chris Soundtrack Corner (does anyone know what they are doing with regards to orders from UK customers?). But there's no company in the UK that sells soundtracks (not that I know of, anyway).

There are a few actually....

Backtrack in Rye. Very good
Elite Soundtracks. Very Bad. Avoid
Lionel Woodman who sells mainly Italian soundtracks. Also very good

I ordered some stuff before Christmas in his free shipping offer. Still not dispatched yet. Said he had to restock (which sounds disturbingly Elite-soundtracky, but he has a good reputation so we'll see).

Didn’t Silva Screen’s offshoot Soundtracks Direct sell US imports in the past? They still have an eBay store but only have a very limited selection now of Silva Screen titles. Perhaps this is opportunity for them to act as importers/agents for the specialist labels.

I ordered from Chris's Soundtrack Corner during the free postage offer too - ordered 2 CDs (one a 2 disc set) the day the offer went live, but the discs weren't sent until the 3/4th of Jan - they showed up in the UK fine last week, unhindered by customs. But I don't know if that was down to sheer luck...

One thing's for sure, living on Plague Island with the Tories in full control is no fun at all.

...But the fish are proud to be British.

What I heard is that Packages won't be stopped for the first 6 months ?.

I thought the free postage offer was only within Germany ?.

I've just had a look for Backtrack. They have no online shop. I'm well aware of how bad Elite Soundtracks are. And Lionel Woodman doesn't sound very good if you're after non-Italian releases. So, essentially there are no decent soundtrack retailers in the UK.

Here is Backtrack link...

They have monthly catalogues and they post quickly...

There's also The Soundtrack to Your Life, although they seem to focus on mainstream releases rather than the limited editions. They're great if you're after older catalogue titles at decent prices.

Has anyone contacted thesoundtracktoyourlife or Backtrack in Rye about expanded their stock to meet UK the needs of UK soundtrack fans? This might be the first step before deciding to go down the coop route.

I delivered a parcel to a customer on Monday , from Germany, the size of a football. There were no signs of any customs tampering, teeth marks or otherwise.

I have spoken to Geoff in Backtrack..... He hasn't got any plans to ramp up his orders. Now I have explained the situation he may reconsider, but I suspect he will see how it goes and if he is selling out of his Music box tiles, for example, will start ordering more. The advantages of running a cooperative is that is non profit and we are cutting out Geoff and the other UK retailers.

Also someone has the responsibility, I would imagine. And if I'm honest I would like the benefits but not the onus.

Hi Damian. Fingers crossed I will be taking early retirement this year which is why I suggested it, as I am willing to run it. If it doesn't happen and the likes of Backtrack don't get their arsed into gear I will go into business myself.

I really hope you guys find a way to have easy access to "foreign" CDs, but please refrain from the political adverts. Thanks.

Didn't know about this but thanks for the heads up. Occasionally the shipping prices from Screen Archives have given me pause for thought although I do appreciate that shipping costs in the USA are high generally.

Apologies - it was more of a lament than anything else.

Hi folks

Dislike the postage costs to the UK as anyone else here.

This might be a crazy idea, for multiple reasons possibly:

How about:

The label provides lossless downloads.

Produces the booklet as normal

Sends the booklet to the customer along with the preprinted sticky cd label.

The booklets and the labels would presumably fit into a standard letter sized envelope.

Standard letter sized envelopes cheaper to post than small packages and more likely to clear customs.

No jewel case cost for the label - customer can bulk buy jewel cases from supplier of choice.

Customer bulk buys blank cds from supplier of choice.

As previously stated this is probably totally crazy, and impractical, but it might get some other ideas rolling.

Regards

CC

Well, labels usually do not get digital rights from the studios !!
