I have and like the re-recording but had heard from other fans that it has some different (slower) tempos and such compared with the original film recording. True? In any case I’m glad to have the original in complete form sans dialogue (though the dialogue on the original Varese album was more charming than annoying IMO).

I've been revisiting the Melbourne re-recording lately and it really is fantastic. But yes some of the tempos are a bit off in the more spirited performances and some sections almost sound re-orchestrated, though it's hard to pinpoint exactly since I haven't heard the complete original recording outside of the film. I was really happy to have the Melbourne recording but this new release is an unexpected delight!

This just arrived, and my gosh I've just gotta say this music is absolutely phenomenal. Every track is a banger boss -- haunting, twisted, whimsical, tense, heart-rending and joyous just begin to describe it. Couldn't even tell you how wide the smile on my face gets when Anorexic Duck Pizzicati, Round Up and Hoggett's Song start playing... and man -- the Dog Tragedy, Mother and Son, and Piggery cues just send a chill down your spine and hit you right in the gut.

Highly, HIGHLY recommend this release to anyone here regardless of how familiar you are with the film (though you definitely should give it a watch -- it'll blow you away). It's the kind of score that makes you fall in love with film music all over again -- just incredible!

You know what's fascinating about this release is that it was performed with the orchestra tuned to the Classical Pitch of 430 Hz as opposed to the more common A440 standard 440 Hz.

This isn't mentioned anywhere in the album notes insofar as I could find, but it's quite fascinating and matches the literally classical approach that was taken with the music, which I'm finding to be very unique.

I just noticed it while trying to play along with it that it was obviously not standard tuning.

Aren't there different orchestral standards in different countries? Like, even for purely classical music ensembles, I know the common tuning for German orchestras is different, isn't it? Maybe Australia is similar.

Currently $10 at Varese.

Totally a steal for this wonderful score. Deluxe Editions of Robocop 3 by Poledouris, Wild Wild West by Bernstein, and the 2CD Looney Tunes: Back in Action are all that price as well. Unfortunately it means they likely sold terribly, which makes me sad particularly in the case of the Bernstein score because I thought the expansion of that was a real revelation! But for any fans on the fence about picking up any of these four fine Deluxe Editions, you have little excuse not to grab them now at 50% off (or more!)
