As a LP lover and a Goldsmith fan, I can not understand why Quartet decided to fill up the 3rd disc with the original album instead of the source and alternate cues that are on the 2CD.
Space on LP is precious because it's limited. Putting tracks twice on such an expensive collectible is in my opinion a waste of audio space (even if the film version sounds slightly different than the album, in this case the difference is so small that putting the two versions of these tracks makes no editorial sense).
In consequence I pre-ordered the 2CD set instead (which I missed the first time it was released).

100% (except the part about buying the CD again)

You're absolutely right, but in their defence it may have been a licensee requirement, in just the same way as expanded CD editions have to include original albums on a second disc, maybe even on this vinyl edition they had to ensure the original album was on it.

I saw an excerpt. It had Daniel Schweiger and Lukas Kendall discussing the score.

I confirm! This featurette is amazing. Jeff Bond is also in it. And the remaster of the movie is simply stunning.

What really sweeten the deal was the 'Total Excess: How Carolco Changed Hollywood' 1hr doco.

Hearing the Goldsmith Total Recall cue over the T2 canal chase scene was weird.

That is primarily why I bought the new Steelbook Bluray. I also perhaps stupidly bought another copy of the soundtrack with the new cover just for my own collection. Don't intend to open it since I have the 25th Anni from Quartet which is the same release, just different cover.

The Carolco doc is magnificent and references Goldsmith several times - including coverage of his Rambo-inspired fanfare.

Just to clarify, this 2-CD release is identical to the 2015 one, except for the artwork? Music and liner notes are the same??

Yes. Only difference is artwork.

Although, I'm LOVING the new artwork. Especially the label print on the disc themselves.

The artwork inspired me to rebuy it, even though the music and liner contents are no different.

I was looking where to get that 30th anniversary edition of the blu-ray with soundtrack included somewhere but I never saw it in stock anywhere.

I thought it was ok. I had hoped for some archival footage of Goldsmith discussing the score. The only thing i remember of his personal reflections were when he conducted the Main Titles up in Toronto in 1990. That was a great concert btw.

I missed out on the box set too...and I'm glad. The standard 3 disc set has all the movie and special feature content with new cover art for only $20 US. 5 disc set DOES have the two soundtrack CDs (which is not in the standard set), but...it's the same awful picture discs from the previous Quartet 2CD. New Quartet has different and (IMHO) better disc label art.

Love the new documentaries. Was great to see and hear Daniel, Lukas, Bob and Jeff in their element. Hearing Lukas comparing Goldsmith to "Rock stars for us fans" warmed my heart.

I didn't mean to downplay it- definitely worth a watch. I was hoping there would have been some footage of Jerry conducting it or talking about it, that's all.

What I did find interesting was that Jerry toned down his future music style not only because of competing with sound FX but also because orchestras were having a hard time performing his music.

Today I stumbled led across a YouTube user by the name of Niko's 8BitStereo and he takes NES game music and makes his own stereo renditions out of them. Sometimes he'll uncover music files that are inaccessible in the game itself. Guess what he found in the Totall Recall game?

Looks like they made a rendition of Goldsmith's theme but swapped it out with a generic action game theme due to not getting the rights. Robbed of another 8bit Jerry Goldsmith theme again.

That must have been an awesome concert. I saw the movie on opening weekend at the Loews (Iin Montreal) theater with my girlfriend of the time and we had a blast. The room was packed to the rafters and when Arnold's name came up on the screen, the theater totally exploded, the crowd standing and cheering to the awe inspiring strains of Mr. Goldsmith's Masterpiece of a score. Good times.

Even with the film mix, one could tell how intricate and complex the music was. I'm not sure if it is Kendall or Bond who said once said it, but you could say that the it was a "fractal" score.
