Very excited about The Soldier and the 2 Dominion concert discs.

Bummer that The Keep looks like the same tracklist as the old TDI cd (minus Sign in the Dark, Weird Village and Love and Destiny). Curious they say they are all previously unreleased.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they will truly be unreleased pieces / mixes that just share the track titles (ie. film versions of Gloria and Canzone)

My take is that THE KEEP tracks are all original compositions from the film. The collection concept is 80-83 Virgin recordings. The TDI version was released in 1997 so it shouldn't be a part of this collection. Going with original recordings here. Plus it says they're all previously unreleased. All good signs.

You make a good point. Perhaps this is sourced from the master of the alleged / abandoned 1983 Virgin album and Froese just reused those track titles when he rerecorded / remixed in 97. No matter what, I doubt we're getting key pieces like the opening titles, the stripped-down Moorland, snowman ending, etc. Hoping for at least original mixes!

AMAZON UK note for this box set:

...soundtracks from the films The Soldier, the 1982 movie directed by James Glickenhaus and The Keep from the 1983 movie directed by Michael Mann, something of a holy grail for Tangerine Dream fans. All audio has been re-mastered from the original master tapes by Ben Wiseman...

So let's hope at last the real one.

I remember getting to hear that original album for THE KEEP that disappeared and I was hugely disappointed as a fan of the score. Most of the memorable tracks I loved from the film weren’t there. Not that the music was in any way bad..it just wasn’t the music from the film.

I agree. I think the track titles have been around for decades and he dug them up for the TDI release. I too want the 'snowman' ending theme more than any of the others. Well, time will tell! Let's hope! Either way, The Soldier; I'd pay the $150 for that alone.

You'd think they'd throw in TD's MCA recordings from this era for completeness.

...then again those tapes were probably destroyed in the fire.

When we read the tracklisting of THE KEEP we may fear that it is in fact just an identical reissue of this album:

https://www.discogs.com/fr/Tangerine-Dream-The-Keep-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/master/233154

And that's not a good thing at all.
Indeed, why not differentiate clearly this new edition from the other which had deeply disappointed by its content far enough away from the original music of the film?

Funny. I was listening to THE KEEP just yesterday, and we were talking about it in the "Now Playing" thread. Great to see THE KEEP get a proper commercial release at long last! (even if you have to get the box, which I cannot afford).

Yeah but as we’re all saying..it looks like it’s not. That previously released version was pretty far away from a proper representation of the score we all want.

I'm a huge TD fan, but this set is kinda less than a Must Have.

No unreleased music from the album sessions, just tracks which have already been released. The Risky Business tracks have already been released.

It'd be nice to have The Soldier, but the TDI version of The Keep was ( for me ) a huge disappointment and not even a really good listen on its own. And even the Soldier tracks - they couldn't even name them ? razz

The first set was ( and still is ) priced at around $150 , but that was 18 discs. The pricing on this will have to be well below that for me to really even think about biting . Not that I'm cheap, but I am big grin

So they should have titled this one "music inspired by the movie" and certainly not original soundtrack from THE KEEP ! Then wait and see for the digital download samples.

As I always understood it, Virgin were gonna release an album for 'The Keep' in 1983, with 2 or 3 tracks from the film, and newly composed tracks. But because the film bombed, the album got shelved. Froese later remixed/rerecorded those tracks for the TDI release. Apparently, the album that will be in the box is the original 1983 version. I also remember that music from 'The Keep' is performed in the Dominion concert, also featured in the box.

And as i know the film 'The Soldier' from beginning to end, i'll be giving my own track titles. wink

And its also known that Christopher Franke, when he left TD, took a lot of master tapes with him to the States.

2 or 3 only and not the best ones, what a pity.

LOOK at that and cry:

I agree. It isn't totally clear but certain hints lead me to believe it's the real deal. All tracks are marked as "previously unreleased". I read a comment on an Instagram announcement from someone who purportedly knows the people who sourced this release and said they claimed all tracks are from the original recordings (I know, grain of salt but why would someone lie about this?). Also, when archival box editions like this are released it would make absolutely no sense to include something released so far outside of the 80-83 era when everything else in the box (including the live album) is either vintage remastered or vintage unreleased. It'd be akin to putting 90's re-recordings of Stratosfear in the IN SEARCH OF HADES box. It's also common knowledge among all TD fans that the TDI KEEP was an abomination and insult to fans of the film and the soundtrack. If true TD aficionados are behind this release there is no way in hell they would put that unpolished turd in this sexy AF box set. Just my take.

I'd be very surprised if Paramount Ok'd the use of the soundtrack. Nah, it'll be the same content as on the TDI version, but the 1983 versions, not remixed-rerecorded-tangled.
